DAYTONA BEACH, Florida, March 13. AS is the case with many of the top junior college swimmers, Daytona State College's Ginny Grams will be moving up to the NCAA Division I ranks, becoming a Texas A and M Aggie in the fall.<\/p>\n

An article published Tuesday by the Daytona Beach News-Journal confirms Grams' transfer to College Station, Texas, where she will help the Aggies in the distance freestyle events. Grams won the 200 free (1:50.35), 500 free (4:56.02) and 1650 freestyle (16:45.43). The time in the mile broke a 27-year-old division record, and was just the first time Grams had swum the race in a championship meet.<\/p>\n

“I had swam it one time at a dual meet,” Grams told the News-Journal. “This time I was tapered and I felt pretty good. My coach said to have fun on my last race, so that's what I did and it worked.”<\/p>\n

Grams' wins were bittersweet for Daytona State, as the team competed in its final meet last week. The school announced earlier in the season that swimming would be cut from the athletics program.<\/p>\n

Grams joins Indian River's Bradley Tandy as the two high-profile swimmers to announce transfers to major Division I universities. Tandy will attend the University of Arizona in the fall.<\/p>\n
