The 2018 North Dakota Girls State Swimming & Diving Championships took place on Nov. 10 at the West Fargo Hulbert Aquatic Center. A pair of State records and nine pool records were broken.<\/p>\n

Led by sophomore\u00a0Lexi Duchsherer<\/strong> who broke a seven-year-old North Dakota State record in the 50 free and was a member of the State record-setting 4×50 free relay,\u00a0Century High School won their fourth-straight – and eighth overall – team title. They finished with 400 points ahead of Minot (281) and Fargo Davies (236.5).<\/p>\n

Century began their winning ways by starting the meet with a pool record in the 4×50 medley relay. The quartet of Briana Rittenbach<\/strong>,\u00a0Avery Meyhoff<\/strong>,\u00a0Paige Keller\u00a0<\/strong>and Duchsherer posted a time of 1:46.14 for the win. West Fargo was second in 1:50.66 and Williston was third in 1:51.03.<\/p>\n

Grand Forks Red River freshman\u00a0Elsa Musselman\u00a0<\/strong>powered home to a win in the 200 free in 1:53.93, just two-tenths shy of her pool record-setting time of 1:53.72 she set during prelims. Minot’s\u00a0Hannah Zaderaka\u00a0<\/strong>swam to second place in 1:55.02 as Century’s\u00a0Carly Palmer\u00a0<\/strong>took a close third in 1:55.23.<\/p>\n

Fargo Davies’ Gracie Lingle\u00a0<\/strong>took the top spot in the 200 IM with a final time of 2:08.24; her time of 2:06.70 set a new pool record.\u00a0Minot’s\u00a0Rylie Webb\u00a0<\/strong>wasn’t too far behind in 2:08.51 for second as Rittenbach swam to third in 2:11.65.<\/p>\n

A trio of sophomores led the way in the 50 free as Duchsherer led the charge in a quick 23.31 – over 1.5 seconds faster than the runner-up. Her time eclipsed the previous State record of 23.36 set by\u00a0Courtney Funk\u00a0<\/strong>back in 2011.\u00a0Williston’s\u00a0Demi Peterson\u00a0<\/strong>(24.90) was second followed closely by Keller (24.95).<\/p>\n

Fargo Davies’ rookie\u00a0Madison Hischer\u00a0<\/strong>dove to the top spot on the 1-meter board with a final score of 408.80. Her teammate\u00a0Isabelle Chambe\u00a0<\/strong>took second with 399.60 points and Mandan’s\u00a0Olivia Lacher\u00a0<\/strong>posted a score of 393.20 for third.<\/p>\n

After taking second in the 50 free, Peterson found herself on top of the podium in the 100 fly as the only swimmer under the minute-mark with a time of 59.33.\u00a0West Fargo Sheyenne teammates\u00a0Tierney Howell\u00a0<\/strong>(1:00.29) and\u00a0Bree Triplett\u00a0<\/strong>(1:00.58) finished second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n

Duchsherer added the 100 free title to match her splash-and-dash win: the sophomore sprinted her way to her second individual win in a swift 51.60.\u00a0She held off a charging Lingle who wound up second in 52.29 followed by Musselman’s third-place finish in 53.06.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jordyn Danielson\u00a0<\/strong>of\u00a0Grand Forks Red River cruised to first in the 500 free, posting a three-second victory in 5:15.20. Freshmen\u00a0Isaella Koebel\u00a0<\/strong>of Century was second in 5:18.24 and fellow rookie Greta Bellas<\/strong> of\u00a0West Fargo Sheyenne\u00a0ended up third in 5:19.36.<\/p>\n

Century posted yet another victory, this time with\u00a0Sarah Dorrheim<\/strong>, Keller,\u00a0Palmer\u00a0and Duchsherer secured another win and a State record in the 4×50 free relay with a time of 1:37.38, bettering the old mark of 1:38.21 set by Minot in 2013. Second went to\u00a0Grand Forks Red River (1:39.85) and third belonged to Fargo Davies (1:40.62).<\/p>\n

Rittenbach earned the gold in the 100 back, stopping the clock in 55.93 after setting a pool record of 55.67 during prelims.\u00a0Grand Forks Red River’s\u00a0Liddy Ohe\u00a0<\/strong>(57.47)\u00a0got the silver and West Fargo’s\u00a0Liv Hettinger<\/strong> (58.63)\u00a0snagged bronze as the only swimmers to crack 60 seconds.<\/p>\n

Palmer got her hands to the wall first in the 100 breast by a full second in a winning time of 1:05.84. Williston’s\u00a0Jenny Logan\u00a0<\/strong>swam to second in 1:06.88 and Mandan’s\u00a0Mayson Sheldon\u00a0<\/strong>posted a time of 1:07.32 for third.<\/p>\n

Century secured their team victory by concluding the meet with their third relay win and pool record in the 4×100 free relay with the squad of Dorrheim,\u00a0Andrea Frank<\/strong>, Palmer and Rittenbach touching the wall in 3:34.24.
