THE Washington State University women’s swim team jumped out to a 13-4 lead after the first event and never looked back en route to defeating Pacific-10 Conference rival Oregon State University 159-103 Friday evening at Douglas F. Gibb Pool.

The Cougars (7-3) won 10 of 14 events, helping them snap Oregon State’s seven meet win streak. WSU has now won three in a row over the Beavers (7-3), and
holds a 25-10 edge in the all-time series.

Andree-Anne LeRoy led the way for the Cougars tonight, winning two individual events and one relay, as well as breaking a Gibb Pool Record. The sophomore from Nanaimo, British Columbia claimed victory in the 100 backstroke in 58.16 seconds, as well as the 200 freestyle relay along with teammates Lindsay
Henahan, Rachel Dong and Sara Schmied.

LeRoy’s pool record came in the 400 individual medley, where she won with a time of 4:31.19. She also placed
second in the 200 backstroke.

"I’d really like to be swimming faster at this point in the season, but at least my times are still decent," LeRoy said. "Our team was awesome tonight,
and I’m really blown away by some of these performances. We’re getting better and better each week, and looking good going into Pac-10’s."

WSU’s Henahan, a junior from Rochester, N.Y., also put on an impressive performance. With Taryn Ternent, Washington State’s school record holder in both the 50 and 100 freestyle, out due to illness, Henahan picked up the slack winning both events. She also led off in the victorious 200 free relay team, and placed second in the 100 butterfly.

Junior Melissa Hubley (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) also played a key role in the Washington State win tonight. Hubley claimed victory in both the 100 and 200 butterfly events, clocking times of 56.82 and 2:01.28, respectively. She also swam on the winning 200 medley relay along with fellow Cougars Nicole Chinn, Rachel Dong and Sara Schmied.

Rebecca Cohen grabbed another win for WSU in the 200 freestyle with a 1:53.89. The junior from Portland, Ore., also placed second in the 500 freestyle.

Washington State’s Katie Byrnes (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) swam well in both backstroke events tonight, winning the 200 and placing second in the 100.

Oregon State’s Naya Higashijima and Birte Steven both won two events each.

The Cougars and Beavers square off again tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Gibb Pool, as Washington State wraps up its dual meet season. WSU then has just under a month to prepare for the Pac-10 Conference Championships Feb. 28-Mar. 2 at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif.

Complete Meet Results

PULLMAN, Wash., Feb. 1.
