The 2018 Wisconsin Girls Division II State Swimming & Diving Championships took place on Nov. 9 at the University of Wisconsin campus in Madison.<\/p>\n

Edgewood dominated the meet, winning their fourth-straight title with a total of 328.5 points ahead of McFarland (209) and Tomahawk (164). McFarland senior\u00a0Alex Moderski<\/strong> highlighted the meet by breaking her own State records in both the 50 and 100 freestyles.<\/p>\n

The meet began as McFarland’s\u00a0Mara Freeman<\/strong>,\u00a0Ella Weaver<\/strong>,\u00a0Emily Landwehr<\/strong> and\u00a0Moderski combined to win the 4×50 medley relay in 1:45.78. Edgewood took second in 1:47.23 and Baraboo finished third in 1:49.20.<\/p>\n

Freeman, a freshman, then went on to win the 100 back in a quick 56.50. Edgewood’s\u00a0Anna<\/strong>\u00a0teDuits<\/strong>, another rookie, took a second-place finish in 57.11 as\u00a0Monroe\/New Glarus’\u00a0Mekenzie Hammer\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 57.88.<\/p>\n

Hammer also threw down the hammer in the 200 IM, stopping the clock in 2:08.37 for the win. Second went to\u00a0New Berlin Eisenhower’s Anna Oleniczak\u00a0<\/strong>in 2:09.06 as Whitewater’s\u00a0Ella Houwers<\/strong> took a close third in 2:09.12.<\/p>\n

Later on in the meet, Houwers got her hands to the wall first in the 100 breast to win by over a second with a time of 1:05.34. Baraboo teammates Taylor Bradley <\/strong>(1:06.63) and\u00a0Ella Lohr<\/strong> (1:07.34) finished second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n

The 200 free was a nail-biter: Houghton’s Sofia Bormett<\/strong>\u00a0(1:53.30) out-touched Edgewood’s\u00a0DeeDee Walker\u00a0<\/strong>(1:53.31)\u00a0by one-hundredth of a second for the win. Tomahawk’s\u00a0Kylee\u00a0Thriller\u00a0<\/strong>wasn’t too far behind in 1:53.79 for third.<\/p>\n

Walker then found herself on top of the podium in the 500 free, besting the competition by three seconds to get the gold in 5:04.88. Silver went to Menomonie’s\u00a0Mille Lausen\u00a0<\/strong>in 5:07.84 as Theiler grabbed the bronze in 5:10.09.<\/p>\n

Not too long after anchoring McFarland to relay victory, Moderski splashed and dashed her way to an individual win in the 50 free for the fourth-straight year. Her time of 22.77 eclipsed her own Division II State record 22.84 she set as a freshman back in 2015. It was a two-way tie for second as Edgewood’s\u00a0Issy Peterson\u00a0<\/strong>and Greendale’s\u00a0Hannah Kujawa<\/strong> both touched in 24.05.<\/p>\n

Shortly after an impressive 50 Moderski was back at it again, this time successfully defending her title in the 100 free. She was the only swimmer under the 50-second mark, breaking her own 2015 record of 50.26 with a fast 49.68. Peterson was again second in 52.29 and Bormett took third in 52.36.<\/p>\n

The 100 fly win went to Whitnall’s\u00a0Nicole\u00a0Beckman\u00a0<\/strong>who got her hands to the wall first in a quick 56.67. Edgewood’s\u00a0Kaitlyn Barth\u00a0<\/strong>took a close second in 56.94 as Greendale’s\u00a0Brianna Homontowski\u00a0<\/strong>powered home to third in 58.36.<\/p>\n

The Edgewood 4×50 relay squad of Maeve O’Driscoll<\/strong>,\u00a0Abby Reid<\/strong>, Peterson and Walker swam away with the State title after combining to post a time of 1:36.62, four seconds ahead of runner-up Tomahawk (1:40.17) and Greendale (1:40.56).<\/p>\n

Monona Grove’s Trinity McNall<\/strong> dove to the top spot on the 1-meter board after posting a final score 468.80. Whitnall’s\u00a0Bella Smith\u00a0<\/strong>finished second with 452.75 points and Seymour’s\u00a0Erin Schuh\u00a0<\/strong>took third with a score of 416.65.<\/p>\n

The meet concluded with yet another Edgewood victory, this time in the 4×100 free relay as the quartet of Barth, teDuits, Reid and Walker posted a winning time of 3:30.13.
