Hungary&#8217;s <strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> blasted a 100 IM just a few tenths off her own World Record from 2017. Fellow World Record holder in this event <strong>Vladimir Morozov<\/strong> was the only swimmer to snag two top seeds for the finals. He raced to first place in both the 100 IM and 50 Freestyle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/Competition?id=000112010AFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF&amp;sport=AQ&amp;year=2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Results<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Women&#8217;s 400 Freestyle<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><b>Femke Heemskerk<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Netherlands carried over her success from Beijing to the opening event of the Tokyo stop of this World Cup Series. Her time of 4:05.15 gave her the top seed in the women\u2019s 400 Freestyle over 16-year-old <\/span><b>Miyu Nanba<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (4:05.28) and <\/span><b>Mayuko Gotou <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(4:06.32). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Aoi Masuda<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (4:06.81) and <\/span><b>Natsumi Shibata<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (4:06.84) were not far behind. <\/span><b>Boglarka Kapa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s of Hungary (4:08.35), <\/span><b>Mahiro Ishii<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (4:08.80) and <\/span><b>Elisabet Gamez Matos <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of Cuba (4:08.86) took sixth through eighth.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Men\u2019s 400 Freestyle<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><b>Kasuke Hagino<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> posted the twelfth-best time of the year so far in his prelims swim of the 400 Freestyle. His time of 3:43.01 was the top swim of the morning, although Brazil\u2019s <\/span><b>Mattheus Costa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was close behind in 3:43.64. Germany\u2019s <\/span><b>Poul Zellman<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was next in 3:44.46 while Ukraine\u2019s <\/span><b>Mykhailo Romanchuk<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> next in 3:44.54. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hungary\u2019s <\/span><b>David Verraszto<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (3:46.02) and USA\u2019s <\/span><b>Blake Pieroni <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(3:46.13), now World Cup veterans, cruised into the fifth and sixth seeds. <\/span><b>Syogo Takeda<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (3:46.42) and Australia\u2019s <\/span><b>Mack Horton<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (3:46.60) will also compete in the final. Horton currently holds the third-fastest time in the world this year at 3:39.52 and will be the one to watch despite being in the outside lane. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Women\u2019s 100 IM<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><b>Katinka Hosszu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> started off the meet strong with a season-best 100 IM. The prelims swim was just half a second off her World Record time of 56.51 set in Berlin in 2017. The time is the fastest in the world this year. <\/span><b>Sarah Sjostrom<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who currently holds the second-quickest swim of 2018, was next in 58.44. World Junior Record holder in this event, <\/span><b>Rikako Ikee,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was third in 58.89.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adding to the already star-studded finals heat are Great Britain\u2019s <\/span><b>Siobhan O\u2019Connor<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (58.92), Jamaica\u2019s <\/span><b>Alia Atkinson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (58.96), Australia\u2019s <\/span><b>Emily Seebohm<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (59.19), <\/span><b>Rika Oomoto<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (59.61) and Germany\u2019s <\/span><b>Franziska Weidner<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1:00.59). Russia\u2019s <\/span><b>Yulia Efimova<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> narrowly missed the final with a ninth-place swim of 1:00.61.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Men\u2019s 100 IM<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The men\u2019s race proved similar, with a loaded field making its way to the finals. <\/span><b>Vladimir Morozov<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the World Record holder from September, raced to a 51.77 for the top seed. USA\u2019s <\/span><b>Michael Andrew<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who holds the third-best time this year, was next in 52.51. Japan\u2019s <\/span><b>Hiromasa Fujimori<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was third in 52.75 with China\u2019s <\/span><b>Wang Shun<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> fourth in 52.87.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Australia\u2019s <\/span><b>Mitchell Larkin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> kicked off his meet with the fifth seed (53.09). <\/span><b>Kousuke Matsui <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(53.17), Japan\u2019s <\/span><b>Keita Sunama<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (53.32) and Israel\u2019s <\/span><b>Yakov Toumarkin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (53.38) will round out the heat.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Women\u2019s 50 Backstroke<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Netherlands and Australia dominated the women\u2019s 50 Backstroke this time around. <\/span><b>Kira Toussaint<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (26.46) was not far off her season best to grab the top seed, while teammate <\/span><b>Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (27.01) was fourth. Aussie pair <\/span><b>Minna Atherton <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(26.73) and Seebohm (26.85) were second and third. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also making it back in the top eight were <\/span><b>Emi Moronuki<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (27.10), Korea\u2019s <\/span><b>Hanbyeoi Park<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (27.16), <\/span><b>Julie Jensen <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(27.35) and <\/span><b>Hikaru Yamasaki<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (27.42)<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Men\u2019s 200 Backstroke<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Less than one full second separated first and eighth place in the men\u2019s 200 Backstroke. <\/span><b>Yuuma Edo <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">touched the wall first in 1:52.04 while Australia\u2019s <\/span><b>Bradley Woodward<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1:53.01) was eighth. Woodward had two teammates also make the top eight in Larkin (1:52.32 &#8211; second) and <\/span><b>Travis Mahoney<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1:52.62 &#8211; fifth). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Germany\u2019s <\/span><b>Christian Diener<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1:52.52), <\/span><b>Hayate Matsubara<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1:52.60), <\/span><b>Masaki Kaneko <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1:52.79) and \u00a0<\/span><b>Xu Jiayu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1:52.94) will also race in the final. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Women\u2019s 200 Butterfly<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><b>Suzuka Hasegawa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> led five swimmers at 2:05 for the women\u2019s 200 Butterfly. Her time of 2:05.54 edged out Hosszu (2:05.59), <\/span><b>Franziska Hentke<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2:05.63), <\/span><b>Zhang Yufei<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2:05.82) and <\/span><b>Nao Kobayashi <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2:05.90). Kobayashi was first through the 150 before cruising in for the fifth seed. All five of these swims rank in the top ten in the world so far for 2018. <\/span><b>Sakiko Shimizu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2:06.37), <\/span><b>Yuyu Kikuchi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2:08.04) and <\/span><b>Kie Kaneko<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2:08.42) placed sixth through eighth. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Men\u2019s 100 Butterfly<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some new names for this cluster of the World Cup made the top eight of the men\u2019s 100 Butterfly. <\/span><b>Takeshi Kawamoto<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was first in 50.64 followed by <\/span><b>Yauhen Tsurkin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 51.29. Great Britain\u2019s <\/span><b>James Guy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was close behind in 51.30 as was <\/span><b>Nao Horomura<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 51.34 and<\/span><b> Riku Poytakivi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 51.44. Australia\u2019s <\/span><b>Matthew Temple<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was sixth in 51.54 and was followed by <\/span><b>Yuuya Yajima<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (51.56) and <\/span><b>Yuuma Wada<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (51.56). Temple could also make a run for the win after posting a 50.73 at the Australian Championships.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Women\u2019s 200 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Russian duo <\/span><b>Vitalina Simonova<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Efimova were back at it in Tokyo taking the top two seeds in 2:20.51 and 2:21.42, respectively. Simova was just off her season best while Efimova holds the fastest time of 2018 in 2:15.62. China\u2019a <\/span><b>Ye Shiwen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> posted the third-best time of 2:21.48 ahead of <\/span><b>Miho Takahashi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2:21.84.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Reona Aoki<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2:22.63), <\/span><b>Georgia Coates<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2:22.84), <\/span><b>Kako Ishida<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2:23.00) and <\/span><b>Runa Imai <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2:23.53) also qualified for the final. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Men\u2019s 100 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Russians also placed two men in the breaststroke finals with <\/span><b>Kirill Prigoda<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (57.31) and <\/span><b>Anton Chupkov<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (57.81). <\/span><b>Yasuhiro Koseki<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (57.58), <\/span><b>Zibei Yan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (57.58) and <\/span><b>Ilya Shymanovich<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (57.70) placed between them in the second and fourth positions. <\/span><b>Ippei Watanabe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (57.84), <\/span><b>Arno Kamminga<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (57.93) and Wilson (57.94) will round out the heat. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Women\u2019s 50 Freestyle<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To no surprise, Sjostrom (23.59), Heemskerk (23.85), Kromowidjojo (23.94) and <\/span><b>Pernille Blume<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (24.02) led the way in the women\u2019s 50 Freestyle. The four are the current world leaders this year and have been trading wins in this event throughout the World Cup. Toussaint (24.47), <\/span><b>Erin Gallagher<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (24.60), <\/span><b>Julie Jensen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (24.62) and <\/span><b>Zhu Menghui<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (24.64) took fifth through eighth.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Men\u2019s 50 Freestyle<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Morozov placed himself among the top of the ranks once again, this time in the 50 Freestyle. He led the way of <strong>Kyle Chalmers<\/strong> of Australia 21.03 to 21.14. All eight qualifiers came in under the 22-second mark. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Kousuke Matsui<\/strong> was third in 21.43 with American pair Pieroni (21.43) and Andrew (21.44) fourth and fifth. <strong>Yoshihiro Asou<\/strong> (21.90), <strong>Louis Townsend<\/strong> (21.90) and either <strong>Dylan Carter<\/strong> or <strong>Daniel Hunte<\/strong>r, who tied for eighth at 21.93, will also compete in the final.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2018 FINA World Cup Tokyo stop kicked off with some fast swims and tight races across the board.
