Both the Boise High School girls and boys swam away with the team title.<\/p>\n<p>Every 5A record in the books was erased this weekend for both the girls and boys as\u00a0Lake City&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Aren Kariotis\u00a0<\/strong>set a new Idaho State record with his dominant 100 fly performance.<\/p>\n<p>Click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2018-idaho-5a-state-final-results\/high-school\/2018\/November\/3?rtn=%2Fresults%2Fhigh-school%3Fpage%3D1%26orderBy%3DResult.MeetStartDateTime%26sortDirection%3D1%26q%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> for full results.<\/p>\n<h1>Girls Meet<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<p>1. Boise &#8211; 182<br \/>\n2. Centennial &#8211; 136<br \/>\n3. Mountain View &#8211; 134<br \/>\n4. Eagle &#8211; 131<br \/>\n5. Lake City &#8211; 126<\/p>\n<p>Mountain View&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lauren McKenna, Isabel Carrillo, Maddison Rice\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Haley Osborne<\/strong>\u00a0started the meet off with a bang, winning the 4&#215;50 medley relay in 1:49.84 for a new 5A record. The same quartet concluded the meet with 4&#215;100 free relay gold &#8211; and another 5A mark &#8211; in 3:39.83.<\/p>\n<p>Not too long after leading off her relay to a State title, McKenna was back in the water for the individual 50 free win. Her time of 24.25 erased the old 5A record.\u00a0Timberline rookie\u00a0<strong>Jillian Moses\u00a0<\/strong>lowered the old Class 5A standard with a record of her own, finding herself on top of the podium in the 100 breast with a swift 1:07.38.<\/p>\n<p>Centennial senior <strong>Maya Knutson\u00a0<\/strong>won the 200 free by nearly two seconds in 5A record-setting fashion with a final time of 1:52.35. She later dominated the 500 free &#8211; also in 5A-record style &#8211; by seven seconds with a time of 5:00.64.<\/p>\n<p>Eagle&#8217;s <strong>Amelia\u00a0Buyers\u00a0<\/strong>took down the 5A mark in the 200 IM, posting a time of 2:07.05 for the victory. Her older sister\u00a0<strong>Haley Buyers\u00a0<\/strong>flew to the top spot in the 100 fly in 57.79, fast enough for a new 5A record of her own.<\/p>\n<p>Timberline&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Eva Suggs\u00a0<\/strong>sprinter her way to the gold medal in the 100 free, continuing the pattern of setting new 5A records; her time of 50.95 set a new class mark. Suggs&#8217; second win of the day came in the 100 back where she won by two full seconds in a new 5A record of 56.12.<\/p>\n<p>Eagle&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cora Wells,\u00a0<\/strong>H. Buyers, A. Buyers and <strong>Sarah Carillo\u00a0<\/strong>combined to take down the previous 5A record in the 4&#215;50 free relay, grabbing the title in 1:40.88.<\/p>\n<h1>Boys Meet<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<p>1. Boise &#8211; 206<br \/>\n2. Eagle &#8211; 160.5<br \/>\n3. Centennial &#8211; 148<br \/>\n4. Lake City &#8211; 147<br \/>\n5. Timberline &#8211; 118.5<\/p>\n<p>Just as the girls did, the boys&#8217; meet started off with a new 5A record in the 4&#215;50 medley relay as Boise&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nathan Quarterman, Zach Stevens, Timothy Wong\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Josh Richmond\u00a0<\/strong>won opening event in 1:41.25.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after, Quarterman was back in the pool to claim the gold medal for the second-straight year in the 200 free. His time of 1:42.78 won by two seconds and also was faster than the previous 5A mark. He also snuck under the old 5A record in the 100 back with a winning time of 50.34.<\/p>\n<p>Capital&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Paul Shutt\u00a0<\/strong>shaved off six seconds from his prelims swim to take the 200 IM title in 5A record-setting style with a time of 1:56.45. He then went on to finish three seconds ahead of the field in the 100 free for his second 5A mark of the day in 47.68.<\/p>\n<p>Eagle&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Luke Heikka\u00a0<\/strong>and Timberline&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jack\u00a0Severs\u00a0<\/strong>both found themselves on top of the podium in the 50 free. Both swimmers splashed-and-dashed their way to gold in a quick 22.97 and will share the Class 5A record honors.\u00a0Coeur D&#8217;Alene&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Karter Rasmussen\u00a0<\/strong>got his hands to the wall first in the 100 breast, stopping the clock in 1:00.88 for the win and a 5A record of his own.<\/p>\n<p>Kariotiswas the only swimmer to crack the 50-second barrier in the 100 fly, doing so in 49.01 to win by nearly four seconds. His time was fast enough to break the Idaho State record set back in 2014 by his former teammate\u00a0<strong>Bryce Kananowiecz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Timerbline&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jon Sutherlin\u00a0<\/strong>knocked off six seconds from his morning time to take the 500 free title in 4:45.98 &#8211; also setting a new 5A mark in the event.\u00a0The 4&#215;50 free relay title and 5A record went to Centennial&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Josh Cunningham, Michael Min, Noah Reith\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Josh Sutton\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:31.77.<\/p>\n<p>The meet concluded with yet another Class 5A record being shattered: Boise&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Patrick Yost,\u00a0<\/strong>Wong,\u00a0<strong>Christopher Patrick\u00a0<\/strong>and Quarterman combined to win the 4&#215;100 free title in 3:17.79 to secure their team title.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2018 Idaho 5A State Championships took place on Nov. 3 at the West Boise YMCA.
