﻿{"id":336431,"date":"2018-11-07T11:00:38","date_gmt":"2018-11-07T18:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=336431"},"modified":"2018-11-05T21:34:47","modified_gmt":"2018-11-06T04:34:47","slug":"pac-12-weekly-preview-no-1-stanford-no-2-cal-women-to-host-no-4-texas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pac-12-weekly-preview-no-1-stanford-no-2-cal-women-to-host-no-4-texas\/","title":{"rendered":"Pac-12 Weekly Preview: No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Cal Women To Host No. 4 Texas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While the Big Ten and ACC conferences are squaring off against each other, two of the elite Pac-12 teams will face one of the elite Big 12 teams for dual meets.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the No. 1 Stanford women will host No. 4 Texas for one of the biggest inter-conference showdowns of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Then on Saturday, Texas will face No. 2 Cal.<\/p>\n<p>It will be an exciting trip for the Longhorns. <strong>Claire Adams<\/strong> could go head-to-head with Stanford freshman <strong>Taylor Ruck<\/strong>, then have to face Cal\u2019s <strong>Amy Bilquist<\/strong> in the backstroke the next day.<\/p>\n<p>In the butterfly, Texas senior <strong>Remedy Rule<\/strong> could face Stanford\u2019s <strong>Ella Eastin<\/strong>, then Cal\u2019s <strong>Katie<\/strong> <strong>McLaughlin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Who knows? The possible head-to-head showdowns are endless with many exciting options for each event.<\/p>\n<p>The Cardinal are coming off of a record-setting performance in their last dual meet at Washington State.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman <strong>Zoe Bartel<\/strong>\u00a0won the 100-yard breaststroke with a facility record time of 1:02.46. That broke a seven-year-old record set by USC&#8217;s Kasey Carlson in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Another freshman, <strong>Taylor Ruck<\/strong>, captured Stanford&#8217;s second pool record of the day. Ruck raced to a finish of 23.04 in the 50 freestyle, which broke the old mark set by Bilquist in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Junior <strong>Erin Voss<\/strong> set the pool standard\u00a0in the 200 backstroke at 1:56.58. That beat out a swim by Cal&#8217;s <strong>Elizabeth Pelton<\/strong> in 2015 by about a half second.<\/p>\n<p>Cal is also coming off of a record-setting performance at Washington State.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, the Golden Bears started things off with a pool mark in the 200-yard medley relay as the foursome of <strong>Sophie Krivokapic-Zhou, Ema Rajic, Abbey Weitzeil<\/strong> and <strong>Alicia Wilson <\/strong>touched in 1:42.51 to lower the record by 0.01 seconds. Weitzeil also put her name in the record book individually with her time of 49.42 in the 100 free later in the meet.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, USC hosts Fresno State and Pacific, while Washington State hosts Wyoming.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, UCLA will host UC-San Diego and UC-Santa Barbara.
