KAITLYN Jones, a senior at Tatnall School, took down Missy Franklin's month-old independent school mark in the girls 200 IM with her 1:56.31. Franklin had posted a 1:56.85 at the Colorado 4A Championships Feb. 9 to better Kathleen Hersey's 2008 mark of 1:57.41.

Jones, who will be attending the University of Virginia in the fall, also claimed victory in the 100 fly with a state record 53.62. Christina Williams' 2004 time of 54.54 was erased.

The Charter School of Wilmington set state records in both the 200 medley and 400 free relays. The 200 medley team of junior Lexi Santer, senior Annie Nunes plus sophomores Caitlyn Blake and Lily Dubroff, lowered the mark the team set last year from 1:46.35 to 1:45.67, and bettered Newark's 3:33.99 standard from 2004 with the quartet's 3:32.49. Dubroff triumphed in the distance events with her 1:50.55 in the 200 free and 4:56.10 in the 500 free. Nunez touched first in the 100 breast in 1:03.16.

Charter School of Wilmington grabbed the team title with 235.5 points. St. Mark's finished second (160), followed by Newark (100), Tatnall (96) and Ursuline Academy (89).

St. Mark's was led by junior Courtney Clarke, who completed the 100 back in a winning 56.37.

Hannah Braatz, a junior at Newark, led off the winning 200 free relay with sophomore Gabby DeAngelis, junior Sarah Braatz and senior Jordan Sawyer (1:40.48). Sarah took first in the 100 free (52.40).

Emma Thomas, a Delaware Military Academy freshman, covered the 50 free in 24.43 for the win. Padua junior Alexis Francis finished first in the diving competition with 303.75 points.

Salesianum senior Matthew Stasiunas set state records in the 200 free (1:38.03) and 500 free (4:26.89). Stasiumas bettered two long-standing marks: the 200 free time of 1:38.16 had been set by Roderick Connell in 2003, and the 500 mark by Mark Kohlman had been around since 1989.

Stasiunas also had a hand in Salesianum's two winning relays. He led off the 400 free relay of sophomore Jordan Carey, freshman Jack Portmann and senior Pat Elliott to a 3:14.40; and anchored the 200 free relay of Portman, Carey and junior Tyler Dougherty (1:28.48).

Salesianum claimed the boys team title with their 407-point total. Charter School of Wilmington finished second (325). St. Mark's (183) edged out Delaware Military Academy for third (171), followed by Sussex Tech (143).

St. Mark's senior Sean Baker swept the sprint freestyles with his first-place swims of 21.54 in the 50 free and 47.26 in the 100 free. Baker swam on the winning 200 free relay (1:38.48) with senior Bryan Panaccione, freshman Connor Panaccione and senior Andrew Adami. Bryan Panaccione picked up a win in the 100 back (51.01).

Ben Creekmore, an Archmere junior, topped the field in both the 100 fly (50.62) and 200 IM (1:54.00).

Charter School of Wilmington senior Nick Gutsche closed out his high school career with a victorious 58.48 in the 100 breast. Classmate Kevin Kruelle posted a first-place diving score of 331.20 points.

NEWARK, Delaware, March 3.
