Seniors Riley Scott<\/strong> and Patrick Mulcare<\/strong> won three events apiece for the second day in a row while junior Louise Hansson<\/strong> matched the feat Saturday, leading the USC women’s and men’s swimming and diving teams to a sweep of Arizona on Saturday morning (Nov. 3) at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.<\/p>\n

The USC women improved to 3-0 overall and 3-0 in the Pac-12 while the men moved to 2-0, 2-0.<\/p>\n

USC’s women’s 200y medley relay of Hansson, Scott, junior Catherine Sanchez<\/strong> and junior Tatum<\/strong> Wade<\/strong> kicked off the meet with a win in 1:40.63 while Troy’s men’s relay of Mulcare, senior Carsten<\/strong> Vissering<\/strong>, freshman Ariel Spektor<\/strong> and sophomore Nikola Miljenic<\/strong> touched first in 1:28.45, a season best.<\/p>\n

Arizona’s Hannah Cox<\/strong> won the women’s 1000y free in 10:05.11 with USC’s Elizabeth Stinson<\/strong> second (10:09.54). USC freshman Viktor Johansson<\/strong>, after two distance wins Friday, took the men’s 1000 today in 9:05.33 with freshman Owen Kao<\/strong> third (9:20.12).<\/p>\n

Wade won the 200y free in 1:48.43 with fellow junior Kirsten Vose<\/strong> third (1:50.88), out-touched for second by 0.01. Freshman Alexei Sancov<\/strong> powered to first in the men’s 200 in 1:37.86.<\/p>\n

Hansson won the 100y back in 54.13. Mulcare pocketed his first win of the day in the men’s 100 back with a 47.87.<\/p>\n

Senior Maddie Wright<\/strong> led another sweep for the Trojans in the 200y fly with a 1:57.22.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Marta Ciesla<\/strong> sped to first in the 50y free with a 22.63, followed to the wall by a trio of Wildcats. Senior Kyle Grissom<\/strong> won the men’s sprint in 20.24 with Miljenic second (20.55).<\/p>\n

Following the break, Ciesla won the women’s 100y free in 49.79 with a 2-3-4 finish for Arizona.<\/p>\n

Hansson breezed to a win in the women’s 200y back in 1:58.80, followed to the wall by Wade (2:02.35). Mulcare dominated his specialty in the men’s race in 1:46.23.<\/p>\n

Scott led another 1-2-3 sweep in the breaststroke, taking the 200 in 2:12.80.<\/p>\n

Arizona’s Sam Ida<\/strong> won the men’s 200y breast in 1:59.07 with Vissering second (2:00.35).<\/p>\n

Cox won her second race by taking the 500y free (4:51.19). Wright, not long after winning the 200y fly, powered to second in the race in 4:56.68. In the men’s 500y free, Johansson reasserted himself again to win in 4:23.18.<\/p>\n

On springboard, Henry Fusaro<\/strong> (370.35) and Brad Dalrymple<\/strong> (298.50) went 1-2 on 1-meter. Fusaro also won 3-meter (366.60), Dalrymple finishing third (340.50). For the women, Naomi Gowlett<\/strong> led three Trojans on 1-meter (293.18) and 3-meter (322.95).<\/p>\n

Hansson made it three wins, taking her specialty, the 100y fly in 53.00 with Sanchez second (54.67). Arizona’s Chatham Hobbs<\/strong> claimed the men’s race in 48.35, 0.07 ahead of USC senior Alex Valente.<\/p>\n

Scott and Mulcare each won three events against Arizona State. The Trojan women won, 168-121, to improve to 2-0 while the USC men, in their first dual meet of the season, won 173-129.<\/p>\n

UCLA edges Arizona, Arizona State<\/h3>\n

he UCLA swimming and diving team wrapped up a successful weekend by topping Arizona State 160-140 on Saturday morning at Spieker Aquatics Center.<\/p>\n

Redshirt senior Maria Polyakova<\/strong> had a banner day in the diving part of the competition to lead the Bruins (3-0) to victory. The Moscow, Russia native set new school and Dirks Pool records with a 355.50 score in the 1m, shattering her previous mark of 339.05 by 16.45 points. That result put UCLA over the 150-mark and clinched the win.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, Polyakova secured a first-place result in the 3m with a season-best score of 339.75.<\/p>\n

In the pool, Amy Okada<\/strong> (100 back, 200 back), Sandra Soe<\/strong> (500 free, 1000 free), and Claire Grover<\/strong> (100 free, 100 breast) all secured multiple event wins. Maisie Jameson<\/strong> (50 free) and Emily Lo<\/strong> (200 breast) both logged their first wins of the year as well.<\/p>\n

The UCLA swimming and diving team recorded a 156-144 win over Pac-12 rival Arizona on Friday afternoon, making the team’s first home meet at Speiker Aquatics Center a successful one.<\/p>\n

Cox won two events, while Delaney Schnell, Katrina Konopka,<\/strong> and Francesca Neubauer<\/strong> each notched a win in the loss to the Bruins.<\/p>\n

Cox won the 1,000 free with 9:58.00.<\/p>\n

Cal swims past Washington State<\/h3>\n

Katie McLaughlin, Abbey Weitzeil, Cassidy Bayer<\/strong> and Ema Rajic<\/strong> won two events apiece and Cal set a pair of Gibb Pool records en route to a 158-95 dual-meet victory over Washington State Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Golden Bears started things off with a pool mark in the 200-yard medley relay as the foursome of Sophie Krivokapic-Zhou<\/strong>, Rajic, Weitzeil and Alicia Wilson<\/strong> touched in 1:42.51 to lower the record by 0.01 seconds. Weitzeil also put her name in the record book individually with her time of 49.42 in the 100 free later in the meet.<\/p>\n

Bayer, a freshman, picked her two individual victories in the 1000 free (10:14.01) and the 200 butterfly (1:59.39), while fellow freshman Rajic earned her first-place finishes both breaststroke events, taking the 100-yard distance in 1:03.39 and the 200-yard race in 2:15.45.<\/p>\n

Weitzeil added the 100 backstroke (54.91) to her 100 free title, and McLaughlin won the 50 free in 23.09 \u2013 more than a second ahead of runner-up Robin Neumann<\/strong> \u2013 and the 400 individual medley (4:20.03).<\/p>\n

Courtney Mykkanen<\/strong> (200 back, 2:02.26), Neumann (500 free, 4:57.67) and Elise Garcia<\/strong> (100 fly, 55.52) also claimed individual victories, and the 200 free relay of Bayer, Jenna Campbell<\/strong>, Ali Harrison<\/strong> and Weitzeil closed the meet with a winning time of 1:34.83.<\/p>\n
