THE Notre Dame men and Louisville women stood in the lead after day two of the Big Ten Championships. <\/p>\n<p>Villanova picked up a strong 1-2 finish to start day two as Hayley Edwards (4:43.41) and Roxanne Tammadge (4:45.77) finished first and second in the women&#039;s 500-yard free.  Pittsburgh&#039;s Kelsey Herbst took down third in 4:45.82.  The Notre Dame men followed up with a 1-2-3 finish in the men&#039;s 500-yard free.  Frank Dyer topped the middle-distance event in 4:20.53, while Kevin Hughes (4:23.67) and Brennan Jacobsen (4:23.71) snared second and third. <\/p>\n<p>Notre Dame&#039;s Emma Reaney, easily the top female swimmer of the meet thus far, dropped the hammer in the women&#039;s 200-yard IM with a 1:56.37.  That effort cleared her meet record of 1:56.42 from a year ago.  Louisville&#039;s Tanja Kylliainen (1:57.53) and Erica Belcher (1:59.61) gave the Cardinals some much-needed team points with a 2-3 finish as the top three all cleared 2:00.<\/p>\n<p>Notre Dame&#039;s men kept on rolling as the Fighting Irish put up another 1-2-3 finish in a row.  Zachary Stephens touched out teammate William Bass, 1:45.41 to 1:45.78, in the men&#039;s 200 IM.  Colin Babcock picked up third-place honors in 1:46.40 for the Irish.  Louisville&#039;s Evan Noble was the top non-Irish finisher with a fourth-place 1:47.04. <\/p>\n<p>Louisville&#039;s Kelsi Worrell dropped a 22.62 on the meet to win the women&#039;s 50 free, coming up a bit shy of former teammate Whitney Campbell&#039;s meet record of 22.36.  Connecticut&#039;s Chinyere Pigot took second in 22.99, while Louisville&#039;s Kristina Brandenburg (23.03) and Grite Apanaviciute (23.14) wound up third and fourth.  <\/p>\n<p>Notre Dame&#039;s Frank Dyer doubled up, showing tremendous range, as he clocked a 19.62 to win the 50 free just after winning the 500 free to kick off the night.  Louisville&#039;s Joao De Lucca (19.73) and Caryle Blondell (19.97) also broke 20 seconds to take second and third.  <\/p>\n<p>Notre Dame&#039;s strong evening continued as Allison Casareto topped the women&#039;s one-meter diving event with 311.80 points.  Connecticut&#039;s Danielle Cecco placed second with 307.25 points, while Notre Dame&#039;s Jennifer Chiang earned third with a 297.60 tally. <\/p>\n<p>Louisville&#039;s Kelsi Worrell (22.98), Kristina Brandenburg (22.47), Mary Mittel (22.92) and Grite Apanaviciute (22.56) raced to victory in the women&#039;s 200-yard free relay with a 1:30.93.  Notre Dame&#039;s Christen McDonough (23.38), Kim Holden (22.81), Cat Galletti (23.10) and Kelly Ryan (22.46) turned in a second-place 1:31.75, while Cincinnati&#039;s Helena Pikhartova (23.39), Wenika Wasiakowska (23.13), Alicia Berman (23.36) and Bailey Laban (23.56) placed third in 1:33.44. <\/p>\n<p>Louisville swept the relays this evening as Caryle Blondell (20.13), Joao De Lucca (19.29), Kameron Chastain (19.56) and Samuel Hoekstra (19.39) won the men&#039;s 200 free relay in 1:18.37, just missing the NCAA A cut.  Notre Dame&#039;s Frank Dyer (19.72), Zach Stephens (19.62), John McGinley (19.89) and William Bass (19.68) placed second in 1:18.91.
