The session set up many sprint showdowns for day two finals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/Competition?id=0001120109FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF&amp;sport=AQ&amp;year=2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Results<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Women&#8217;s 400 IM<\/h2>\n<p>Three swimmers raced in the early heat of the women&#8217;s 400 IM. <strong>Yi Zhou<\/strong> (4:52.26) holds the top time with eight swimmers remaining in the final. She was joined by <strong>Dan Zhao<\/strong> (5:03.73) and <strong>Meihui Sun<\/strong> (5:07.91) in the timed final.<\/p>\n<h2>Men&#8217;s 1500 Freestyle<\/h2>\n<p>In similar fashion, eight men raced in heat one of two of the 1500. Huafeng Wang leads the way headed into the final featuring <strong>Mykhailo Romanchuk<\/strong>, <strong>Ji Xinjie<\/strong>, <strong>Marwan El Kamash<\/strong> and more. His time of 15:29.68 was enough for the win over Yu Zhou in 15:35.51. The two were far ahead of the next closest competitor, <strong>Yinbo Zhang<\/strong> who raced to a 16:07.79.<\/p>\n<h2>Men&#8217;s 50 Backstroke<\/h2>\n<p>China&#8217;s <strong>Xu Jiayu<\/strong> took the first true top seed of the morning in 23.46. He was followed closely by <strong>Michael Andrew <\/strong>(23.69), who currently holds the second-fastest time in the world this year and Russia&#8217;s <strong>Vladimir Morozov<\/strong>\u00a0(23.86) who is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2018-fina-world-cup-beijing-morozov-hosszu-grab-two-wins-each-to-kick-off-day-one-finals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fresh off two victories<\/a> in Beijing.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s <strong>Mitch Larkin<\/strong> led a group of swimmers at 24 seconds, coming in at 24.10. He was followed by <strong>Mikita Tsmyh<\/strong> (24.24), <strong>William Yang<\/strong> (24.34), <strong>Wang Peng<\/strong> (24.35) and <strong>Kecheng Wang<\/strong> (24.49).<\/p>\n<h2>Women&#8217;s 200 Freestyle<\/h2>\n<p>A stacked 200 Freestyle prelim resulted in <strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> cruising in at 1:54.87 for the the top seed. China&#8217;s <strong>Li Bingjie<\/strong> was next in 1:55.39 and <strong>Femke Heemskerk<\/strong> took third in 1:55.80 after blasting a quick 54.97 opening 100.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yang Junxuan<\/strong> (1:55.96) and <strong>Caiping Yang<\/strong> (1:56.17) were fourth and fifth, respectively. They were followed by <strong>Yuxi Chen<\/strong> (1:56.31), <strong>Zhang Yuhan<\/strong> (1:56.50) and <strong>Yuhan Qiu<\/strong> (1:56.52).<\/p>\n<h2>Men&#8217;s 200 IM<\/h2>\n<p>Larkin, a heavy favorite in this event, was disqualified in the preliminary heats with a time that would have easily made the top eight. Japan&#8217;s <strong>Keita Sunama<\/strong> got to the wall first in 1:56.49 narrowly ahead of <strong>Feilian Mao<\/strong> (1:56.85). <strong>Yu Cong<\/strong> also won a tight battle over <strong>Wang Shun<\/strong> 1:57.22 to 1:57.27.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s <strong>Hiromasa Fujimori<\/strong>\u00a0earned a second swim in 1:57.53. Australia, despite the absence of Larkin, also placed two swimmers in the final. <strong>Jared Gilliland<\/strong> (1:57.67) and <strong>Matthew Wilson<\/strong> (1:58.15) will race in the outside lanes tonight. Hungary&#8217;s <strong>David Verraszto<\/strong>\u00a0 qualified in the sixth position with a 1:57.56.<\/p>\n<h2>Women&#8217;s 100 Backstroke<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Emily Seebohm<\/strong> led another loaded women&#8217;s event in the 100 Backstroke. Her time of 57.63 led a quartet of swimmers under 58 seconds. <strong>Minna Atherton<\/strong> (57.73), <strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> (57.78) and <strong>Kira Toussaint<\/strong> (57.99) were all under the mark. All four of these women currently rank in the top five worldwide this year, with Seebohm leading the way in 55.81 from Budapest.<\/p>\n<p>China then placed four swimmers in the final in <strong>Fu Yuanhui<\/strong> (58.27), <strong>Chen Jie<\/strong> (58.97), <strong>Liu Yaxin<\/strong> (59.39) and <strong>Peng Xuwei<\/strong> (59.45).<\/p>\n<h2>Men&#8217;s 50 Breaststroke<\/h2>\n<p>A tight 50 Breaststroke prelim has set up a true battle as the top five finishers were separated by less than half a second. After a quick start, <strong>Peter Stevens<\/strong> hit the wall first in 26.26. Close behind were Andrew in 26.30 and <strong>Yan Zibei<\/strong> in 26.45. <strong>Ilya Shymanovich<\/strong> (26.51), <strong>Kirill Prigoda<\/strong> (26.71) and <strong>Weijia Shi<\/strong> (26.80) were also in the mix. <strong>Hao Shen<\/strong> (27.13) took seventh while <strong>Arno Kamminga<\/strong> and <strong>Anton Chupkov<\/strong> tied for eighth in 27.21.<\/p>\n<h2>Women&#8217;s 50 Butterfly<\/h2>\n<p>The close rankings did not end there, as just one one hundredth of a second separated <strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> and Sjostrom in the 50 Butterfly prelims. Their times of 25.60 and 25.61 are about one second off their season bests of 24.65 and 24.61.<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s <strong>Zhang Yufei<\/strong> was third in 25.78, while <strong>Yuhan Qiu<\/strong> and <strong>Wang Yichun<\/strong> went 25.96 and 25.98. <strong>Pernille Blume<\/strong> will be another swimmer to watch in the final after taking the sixth seed in 26.22. Lin Xintong (26.23) and <strong>Alia Atkinson<\/strong> (26.50) will round out the heat.<\/p>\n<h2>Men&#8217;s 100 Freestyle<\/h2>\n<p>Morozov took his first top seed of the meet in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 46.79. America&#8217;s <strong>Blake Pieroni<\/strong> was next in 47.28. The two are currently ranked first and second in the world rankings with their times from Budapest.<\/p>\n<p>China placed three swimmers in the final with swims from <strong>He Junyi<\/strong> (48.02), <strong>Cao Jiwen<\/strong> (48.20) and <strong>Hou Yujie<\/strong> (48.34). <strong>Bradley Vincent<\/strong> (48.32), <strong>Daniel Hunter<\/strong> (48.33) and <strong>Artsiom Machekin<\/strong> (48.36) will also race in the final.<\/p>\n<h2>Women&#8217;s 100 Breaststroke<\/h2>\n<p>The top three swimmers in the world this year claimed the top three seeds for the 100 Breaststroke final. Atkinson (1:05.70), <strong>Vitalina Simonova<\/strong> (1:06.34) and <strong>Yulia Efimova<\/strong> (1:06.59) will provide an exciting race for gold in this event.<\/p>\n<p>They will be challenged by <strong>Junyang Feng<\/strong> (1:07.06), <strong>Yun He<\/strong> (1:08.04), <strong>Franziska Weidener<\/strong> (1:08.18), <strong>Pei Wun Lin<\/strong> (1:08.41) and Hosszu (1:08.72).<\/p>\n<h2>Men&#8217;s 200 Butterfly<\/h2>\n<p>Similar to previous events on morning two, the 200 Butterfly was a tight race for the top eight. China&#8217;s <strong>Li Zhuhao<\/strong> (1:56.34) and <strong>Zheng Xiaojing<\/strong> (1:56.40) took first and second. Japan&#8217;s <strong>Masayuki Umemoto<\/strong> was next in 1:56.84 followed closely by Hungary&#8217;s Verraszto in 1:56.94.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shuchang Zhou<\/strong> (1:57.08), <strong>Rui Yu<\/strong> (1:57.45), <strong>Yauhen Tsurkin<\/strong> (1:57.85) and <strong>Rune Zhou<\/strong> (1:59.89) placed fifth through eighth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The second day of preliminaries at the FINA World Cup Beijing stop featured nine preliminary events and two timed finals.
