Swimming Australia are pleased to announce former double Olympian and Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist Andrew Baildon<\/strong> as a member of the Swimming Australia board for the next three years.<\/p>\n

Baildon was formally elected to the board early this week with his selection ratified at the Swimming Australia AGM in Melbourne today.<\/p>\n

With over 30 years\u2019 experience in swimming, firstly as an athlete representing Australia at the 1988 Seoul and 1992 Barcelona Olympics, followed by his work as Managing Director at the Superfish Swim School in Queensland for the past 22 years.<\/p>\n

Swimming Australia President John Bertrand<\/strong> AO said it was fantastic to have someone of Baildon\u2019s pedigree joining the board of Swimming Australia.<\/p>\n

\u201cAndrew not only has his swimming background to draw on but has also held different positions on technical committees and advisory boards within swimming and the Commonwealth Games.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHis knowledge, passion and understanding of the sport will be a great asset to the board and we very much look forward to his contribution in the coming years,\u201d said Mr Bertrand.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Swimming Australia also confirmed two life memberships at the AGM, with one posthumously awarded to Jan Cameron<\/strong> who passed away suddenly in May of this year and the other to Queensland\u2019s Laurie Lawrence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Cameron, an Olympic medalist and former New Zealand Head Coach and Australian Para Head Coach, was recognized for her immense contribution to swimming in Australia over many decades.<\/p>\n

\u201cJan was so passionate about the sport of swimming and was a much-loved member of the Australian swimming family through her time as an athlete, coach and administrator,\u201d said Mr Bertrand.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShe has left such a wonderful legacy for swimming in this country, especially with our para swimmers, that it only seemed fitting that she be acknowledged by receiving Life Membership posthumously.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Also receiving Life Membership was former Australian swimming coach and platinum level coach Lawrence.<\/p>\n

\u201cLaurie has not only given so much at the elite level of the sport where he has coached many swimmers to multiple Olympic medals, but he is also a strong voice in the advocacy of drowning prevention in Australia.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe thoroughly deserves this recognition of Life Membership after his lifelong contribution to the sport across multiple aspects,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Bruce Havilah<\/strong> was re-elected to the Swimming Australia Board for a second term, as well as Jeremy Turner finishing his board tenure, having served the maximum number of terms allowed.<\/p>\n
