PRINCETON, NJ, Jan. 27. THE Princeton University men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming and diving teams returned from a seven week layoff to defeat Ivy League foe Dartmouth at DeNunzio Pool. <\/p>\n
Swimming several unconventional events, the No. 25 women\u2019s team notched a 152-118 victory, while the men won 116-92.<\/p>\n
The women\u2019s team (5-0), honoring their nine seniors at their last home meet, opened the competition with 1-2-3 sweeps of the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle, and 400 individual medley. They never looked back. <\/p>\n
Freshman Chrissy Macaulay led a well-balanced attack, posting victories in the 25 freestyle (11.37) and the 100 breaststroke (1:07.58). <\/p>\n
Sophomore Stephanie Wright won the 400 IM (4:38.22). Juniors Chrissy Holland, Maura Bolger, and Molly Seto won the 50 breaststroke (31.33), 200 freestyle (1:57.51), and 100 backstroke (1:00.07) respectively. And Sandra Kamholz represented the Senior class, undefeated in four years of dual meet competition, winning the 100 fly (1:01.00).<\/p>\n
The men\u2019s team (5-0) was equally well-balanced, with swimmers from all four classes winning events. Junior Jesse Gage led the team with wins in the 75 freestyle (34.08) and 75 fly (37.39). <\/p>\n
Juniors Carl Hessler and Pat Donohue won the 25 freestyle (10.14) and 75 backstroke (38.80) respectively. <\/p>\n
Senior Kevin Volz dominated the field in the 300 freestyle (2:43.22), beating his closest opponent by almost 7 seconds, and Eric Carty-Fickes won the 1m diving competition. <\/p>\n
Sophomore Mike Salerno finished first in the dreaded 600 IM (6:42.15). Freshman Jeremy Tillman won the 100 IM (53.38), and Justin Chiles took the 50 freestyle (21.76), the meet\u2019s only "standard" event.<\/p>\n
Both teams return to action next weekend with the HYP double-dual meet with rivals Harvard and Yale in New Haven, CT. The men swim at 7pm Friday and 2pm Saturday, while the women start at 7pm Saturday and 1pm Sunday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
