RYAN Lochte is more known for his exploits in the pool and on the party circuit, but earlier this week, he met with U.S. senators to help get a bill passed to fund muscular dystrophy research.<\/p>\n<p>The disease is one that hits close to home for Lochte, as he lost a relative to the genetic disorder. The Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy is just one of two charities that Lochte officially stands behind (the other being the drowning awareness charity the Max Crutchfield Foundation), so his visit to the nation&#039;s capital in the middle of heavy training says a lot about his level of involvement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#039;ve just got to wait and see whether we get more funding or not,&#8221; Lochte told the Daytona Beach News-Journal in an article published yesterday. &#8220;I talked to all the senators, so I did my part. All we have to do is hope and pray that they pass the bill and we get more funding.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to meeting with legislators, Lochte received the &#8220;Change It Champion Award&#8221; for his work in curing muscular dystrophy. Lochte&#039;s visit to Washington was filmed by a camera crew for his upcoming reality TV show &#8220;What Would Ryan Lochte Do,&#8221; so expect to see a side of Lochte not often shown in public.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON, D.C., February 15.
