THE USA's Ed Moses and Slovakia's Martina Moravcova each took home the $50,000 top prize awarded to the top male and female swimmer on the World Cup tour.
\nMoses also won a Volkswagen beetle as a bonus after he was named the outstanding swimmer at the Berlin venue, the final stop on the tour.<\/p>\n
This year, the nine-venue World Cup circuit offered total prize money of $780,000.<\/p>\n
Moses set five world records in just over a week, first in Paris, then Stockholm and Berlin. Though his 50 meter mark was lowered to 26.20 by Ukraine's Oleg Lisogor on Saturday, Moses left Europe owning the global standards in the 100 (57.47) and 200m breaststroke (2:03.17).<\/p>\n
Moravcova, a double silver medalist at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, won the top $50,000 prize for women after lowering Jenny Thompson's world mark in the 100 meter butterfly on Saturday. Moravcova clocked 56.55 seconds, shaving one-hundredth of a second off Thompson's mark set on March 18, 2000 at the Short Course World Championships in Athens.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
