{"id":334189,"date":"2018-10-23T10:14:37","date_gmt":"2018-10-23T17:14:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=334189"},"modified":"2018-10-22T10:18:09","modified_gmt":"2018-10-22T17:18:09","slug":"sec-weekly-preview-florida-georgia-renew-rivalry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sec-weekly-preview-florida-georgia-renew-rivalry\/","title":{"rendered":"SEC Weekly Preview: Florida, Georgia Renew Rivalry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The SEC continues its swimming &amp; diving season with a full slate of meets this week.<\/p>\n<p>There are several strong matchups within the SEC as well as some inter-conference battles between SEC powers and other top teams around the country.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest meet of the week is one of the best rivalries in the country in any sport.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Georgia hosts Florida for an all-SEC power showdown.<\/p>\n<p>The Florida men are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cscaa.org\/top25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ranked<\/a> No. 4, while the Georgia men are No. 10. The Georgia women are ranked No. 6, while the Florida women are No. 17.<\/p>\n<p>The rivalry will be without <strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> and <strong>Jan Switkowski<\/strong> for the first time, but the Gators have <strong>Maxime Rooney<\/strong> and <strong>Khader Baqlah<\/strong> and a good amount of depth.<\/p>\n<p>The Florida women have a <strong>Sherridon Dressel<\/strong> and<strong> Savanna Faulconer<\/strong> and a freshman <strong>Mabel<\/strong> <strong>Zavaros<\/strong>, who is performing well already this season.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia is without the <strong>Litherland<\/strong> brothers and <strong>Gunnar Bentz<\/strong>. The Bulldogrs are led by J<strong>avier Acevedo, Youssef Said<\/strong>, and, on the women\u2019s side, <strong>Courtney Harnish<\/strong> and <strong>Veronica Burchill<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It should make for another exciting rivalry meet.<\/p>\n<p>Also on Friday, Tennessee hosts Alabama in another conference battle. The Volunteers will be coming off of another big meet on Thursday when they host Louisville.<\/p>\n<p>The Tennessee men are ranked No. 12, while Louisville is No. 15 and Alabama is No. 17.<\/p>\n<p>For the women, Tennessee is No. 10, while Louisville is No. 14 and Alabama is No. 25.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, LSU swims at Kentucky. The Kentucky women are ranked No. 12.<\/p>\n<p>Other Friday meets include Vanderbilt and Arkansas and South Carolina at North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>There are a couple of two-day meets as well.
