CARY, North Carolina, February 13. FOUR North Carolina 1A\/2A records fell during the boys portion of the North Carolina 1A\/2A High School Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 8-9 in Cary. One division record fell during the girls competition.<\/p>\n
Shelby's Parker Campbell was named the male Most Valuable Performer. He erased division marks in both the 100 back (52.32) and 200 IM (1:56.31). Also lowering standards were Thomas Bilden from Carrboro (100 fly, 51.34) and North Carolina Science and Math's Jacob Vosburgh (500 free, 4:38.38). Vosburgh also claimed the 200 free victory with his 1:42.48.<\/p>\n
Tarboro's Cameron Anderson won the 100 free outright (47.55) and shared the 50 free title with Carrboro's Justin Mortell (21.76). Durham Arts' Matt Jacobs posted a winning 1:00.37 in the 100 breast.<\/p>\n
Relay victories were earned by three different schools. Lake Norman Charter's quartet of Chris Cardwell, Drew Queen, Corrin Rothwell and Austin Jones were tops in the 200 medley relay (1:38.52); Vosburgh anchored Matt Weaver, Daniel Birmingham and Jack Allen to a 1:30.52 victory in the 200 free relay (1:30.52); and Carrboro's squad of Will MacMillan, Bilden, Morrell and Sam Strosnider combined for a 3:13.77.<\/p>\n
The lone girls record fell to Olivia Ontjes of Raleigh Charter with her 50.75 in the 100 free. She earned Most Valuable Performer honors for that performance, as well as her 1:03.94 triumph in the 100 breast.<\/p>\n
Ontjes also led off Raleigh Charter's winning 200 free relay with Margaret Ireland, Alexandra van Dorsten and Hatt (1:38.37); and anchored Tara Martin, van Dorsten and Lindsey Hatt to a 3:37.89 first place effort in the 400 free relay. Raleigh Charter gained the relay sweep with the 200 medley relay of Hatt, Ireland, Martin and Paige Whalen (1:51.78).<\/p>\n
On the strength of those performances, depth plus Ireland's winning 2:11.21 in the 200 IM, Raleigh Charter swam away with the team title (376 points). It marked the third straight year that Raleigh Charter earned top team honors. Carrboro finished in second (161), closely followed by Lincoln Charter (154). Lake Norman Charter and Northwood tied for the fourth spot with 148 points each.<\/p>\n
Lincoln Charter's Christina Lappin was another dual event champion, posting a 23.76 in the 50 free and 55.60 in the 100 fly. <\/p>\n
McKenzie Stevens of Salisbury brought home a 200 free victory (1:53.51), and West Davidson's Grace Baird put together a 5:06.28 for the first-place time in the 500 free. Alyssa March of Pine Lake Prep earned first in the 100 back (57.11).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
