The Pack saw its swimmers sweep nine events across the men and the women. Both Wolfpack squads improve to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference action with the wins.<\/p>\n<p><em>Quotes:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;I wanted to see a good environment today, good energy on the deck, and we brought a good environment. Our parent group and our alumni up in the stands did a great job of creating a good atmosphere for the meet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;We had some good performances. Our ladies once again showed a good bit of range and depth. <strong>Ky-lee Perry<\/strong> continues to be a big player for us in the sprints. Our lady backstrokers and breaststrokers are showing a lot of depth. The biggest highlight was <strong>Makayla Sargent&#8217;s<\/strong> day, getting three wins. She&#8217;s a trooper. She goes at it every day and handles the intensity on a daily basis very well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;On the men&#8217;s side, we had some guys step up. <strong>Jack McIntyre<\/strong> had a great day for us. <strong>Giovanni Izzo<\/strong> got a look in the breaststroke, which was good. With the guys, we&#8217;re still challenging them to see others step up. We look forward to new days to create new opportunities,&#8221;-NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Braden Holloway<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Highlights:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Makayla Sargent<\/strong> impressed with three individual wins as the Wolfpack women&#8217;s leading scorer. After picking up two first-place finishes in last week&#8217;s season opener, the NC State junior opened her meet by dropping time in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 1:58.18. Sargent earned her second 500-yard freestyle win of the season in 4:50.58 and then went on to post a pool record with a dominant performance in the 400-yard individual medley (4:11.64), the nation&#8217;s second-fastest time in the event this season and an NCAA B cut.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sophie Hansson<\/strong> remains unbeaten in the individual breaststroke events through the first two weeks of the season, as she picked up another sweep in the meet against the Blue Devils. She won the 100-yard breaststroke in pool record time (1:01.40) and went on to take the victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.45).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ky-lee Perry<\/strong> also picked up a pair of individual wins, setting pool records in both the 50-yard (22.35) and 100-yard (48.99) freestyle events.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#8217;s side, <strong>Jack McIntyre<\/strong> led the Pack in scoring. The sophomore has picked up 1000-yard freestyle wins in both of his outings this season, taking first against Duke with a time of 9:13.84. McIntyre also won the 400-yard individual medley in 4:00.99<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jacob Molacek<\/strong> earned his first wins of the season, as he opened his outing by taking first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:37.15. He went on to win the 100-yard freestyle in 44.18.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nyls Korstanje<\/strong> continued to prove himself as one of the nation&#8217;s fastest swimmers in the early stages of the season as he picked up a win in the 50-yard freestyle with another sub-20 second race. He dropped time from his career debut to record an NCAA B mark, clocking in at 19.90 for the first-place finish.<\/p>\n<p>Swimming the 100-yard butterfly for the first time this season, <strong>Giovanni Izzo<\/strong> met the NCAA B standard with a 47.69 for the win. Coleman Stewart, who clocked an NCAA B cut in the 100-yard backstroke at the last meet, picked up another win in the event and set a pool record of his own with a 46.26 mark.<\/p>\n<p><em>NC State Swimming and Diving contributed to this report.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Pittsburgh vs. Virginia<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/virginiasports.com\/documents\/2018\/10\/20\/uva_v_pitt_2018_results_1_.pdf\">Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p>CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-\u00a0The Virginia men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming and diving teams swept Pittsburgh on Saturday (Oct. 20) at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Charlottesville, Va.\u00a0The Cavaliers recorded a first-place finish in 25 of 32 events during the competition, capturing their first ACC dual meet win of the season.<\/p>\n<p>The No. 10 Cavalier women (2-0, 1-0) topped the Panthers (1-3, 0-3) 172.5-122.5, while the No. 15 Virginia men (2-0, 1-0) won their matchup against Pitt (1-3, 0-3) 180.5-114.5.<\/p>\n<p><em>Quotes:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">\u201cGreat day today with our second dual meet being a definite improvement upon our first dual meet a couple of weeks ago,\u201d head coach <strong>Todd DeSorbo<\/strong> said. \u201cThat\u2019s definitely our goal every season, to just progress meet to meet and get better. Our training progresses. Obviously, we should be getting in better shape. We are getting more powerful, more explosive, tougher, learning our races better. So, our goal is to get better week to week and dual meet to dual meet. For the most part, that showed today. Really pleased with where they (team) are at. It\u2019s a tough time of year. October is one of our biggest training months of the year. The team is tired, but definitely had a lot of energy and fed off the crowd, the alumni and family. That helped energize the team today. I\u2019m really pleased with how they did.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">\u201cSydney Dusel on the boards again today, winning both events. She\u2019s doing a fantastic job for us under our new diving coach, <strong>Drew Livingston<\/strong>. He is doing wonders for us. The guys went 1-2-3 on the 1m as well, a significant improvement over last year, so we are excited about that. The team is being carried by captains and upperclassmen, and our first-years are continuing to step up on both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s side. We are excited about the team. We are excited about each meet, each week. We are excited about the future and looking forward to seeing how the team progresses. We are also looking at getting healthy. We had several people out today due to injury or sickness. It\u2019s kind of that time of year, so we are just looking to get healthy as we head into Auburn and Louisville.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Highlights:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s competition, senior <strong>Eryn Eddy<\/strong> (Loveland, Colo.) led the team with three individual first-place finishes, winning the 50-yard freestyle (23.05), 100-yard freestyle (50.20) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.76). Senior <strong>Vivian Tafuto<\/strong> (Hummelstown, Pa.) led the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.46) in addition to placing first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.87). Sophomore <strong>Emma Seiberlich<\/strong> (Audubon, Pa.) placed first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.70), while freshman<strong> Kaki Christensen<\/strong> (Darien, Conn.) finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.77). Hill finished first in the 100-yard butterfly (53.99).<\/p>\n<p>On the men\u2019s side, three swimmers each won a pair of events. Redshirt senior <strong>Brendan Casey<\/strong> (Santa Monica, Calif.) captured first in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:15.94) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:31.45). Freshman <strong>Justin Grender<\/strong> (Cincinnati, Ohio) swept the backstroke events, picking up a win in the 100-yard backstroke (49.14) and in the 200 (1:47.36).
