Two-time Olympian and five-time Olympic Champion Missy Franklin<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>has been announced as one of the inductees to the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame for 2019.<\/p>\n

According to the Denver Post<\/em><\/a>, Franklin highlights a list of six inductees including Olympic silver medalist Todd Lodwick<\/strong>,\u00a0football player Daniel Graham<\/strong>, wrestling coach Bob Smith<\/strong>, Colorado School of Mines coach Marvin Kay<\/strong> and multi-sport athlete Tom Southall<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Franklin grew up swimming for the Colorado Stars and graduated from Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colorado in 2013. Along with sixteen World Championship medals between 2011 and 2015, Franklin earned four gold medals at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.<\/p>\n

Her performances in the 100<\/a> and 200 backstrokes<\/a>, along with the 4 x 100 medley relay and 4 x 200 freestyle relay awarded her top honors. She also won bronze at these games in the 4 x 100 freestyle relay and gold in the 4 x 200 freestyle relay in Rio<\/a> in 2016.<\/p>\n

As a collegiate competitor at the University of California, Berkeley, Franklin won four individual NCAA titles<\/a> and helped the Golden Bears to the NCAA Championship title in 2015.<\/p>\n

Not only is Franklin known for her athletic accomplishments, but for her leadership<\/a> and vibrant personality<\/a> as well. She has also contributed her wisdom<\/a> to the swimming community and her passion to the USA Swimming Foundation<\/a>. This combination follows suit with the mission of the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, as provided by their website<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“To honor, by public acknowledgment or commemoration, those individuals who merit recognition and distinction for their exploits, accomplishments and leadership in sports and athletic endeavors in the state of Colorado. Equally, to build and make available programs and support for youth in our state, to cultivate character and citizenship as they grow toward leadership in our state and throughout the Nation.”<\/p>\n

Athletes are nominated for the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame by the public and selected by an independent selection committee comprised of media members from around Colorado.
