GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) \u2013 NC State\u2019s Andreas Vazaios<\/strong> has been selected as the ACC Men\u2019s Swimmer of the Week, and Virginia Tech\u2019s Ben Schiesl<\/strong> has been named the Diver of the Week. On the women\u2019s side, Louisville\u2019s Mallory Comerford<\/strong> has been tabbed as the ACC Women\u2019s Swimmer of the Week, and the Virginia\u2019s Sydney Dusel<\/strong> has been named Diver of the Week.<\/p>\n

After putting together strong performances in the Wolfpack’s season-opening meet, NC State senior Andreas Vazaios was named the ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.<\/p>\n

Vazaios helped lead the Wolfpack men to a 198.5-99.5 victory in Friday’s meet at South Carolina. The reigning ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Year took first place in all three of his individual events and captured a top finish as part of the 400 freestyle relay team on the way to finishing the meet as the squad’s top scorer.<\/p>\n

A native of Athens, Greece, Vazaios finished as the top swimmer in the 200 backstroke (1:47.36), 200 freestyle (1:37.63) and the 200 individual medley (1:46.65). His individual medley time currently ranks No. 1 in the nation through the opening weeks of the 2018-19 season and is good for an NCAA B cut.<\/p>\n

Vazaios also anchored NC State’s winning 400 freestyle relay team, which took first place with a time of 3:01.29.<\/p>\n

Virginia Tech senior diver\u00a0Ben Schiesl has been named the ACC Men’s Diver of the Week for Oct. 15 as announced Monday by the league office.<\/p>\n

Schiesl\u00a0helped the Hokies\u00a0to a 178.5-121.5 win over Duke on Saturday to open the 2018-19 season. The Fairfax, Virginia native was the top finisher on the 1-meter, turning in a score of 384.52. He followed up by adding points to Tech’s total on the 3-meter with a fourth place score of 345.30. The All-American\u00a0posted NCAA A qualifying scores on both events over the weekend.<\/p>\n

This marks the first Diver of the Week honor for Schiesl in his career. He and the Hokies will be back in the pool Oct. 26-27 when they host Ohio State and Penn State at the Christiansburg\u00a0Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n

Comerford turned in a stellar performance as Louisville finished in first place at the SMU Classic, defeating No. 10 Virginia and No. 11 USC in the process. The senior from Kalamazoo, Michigan, placed first in all six events she competed in, winning the 100 free, 200 free, 500 free, 200 free relay, 400 medley relay and the 800 free relay. Comerford teamed up with in the Alina Kendzior, Mariia Astashkina, and Grace Oglesby in the 400 medley relay to post an NCAA automatic-qualifying time of 3:31.45.<\/p>\n

Virginia junior Sydney Dusel (Naperville, Ill.) was named the ACC Diver of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday (Oct. 15).<\/p>\n

The diver led the No. 10 Cavalier women\u2019s team at the 25th annual SMU Classic over the weekend, tying as the meet\u2019s diving point total winner after capturing the top score in the 3m dive and a second-place finish in the 1m dive. Dusel won the 3m board with a score of 319.55 and placed second on the 1m board with a score of 295.60.<\/p>\n

Dusel recorded 29 points for the Cavaliers, helping to lead the women\u2019s team to a third-place finish at the meet.<\/p>\n
