NUMBER 1 Stanford (5-0, 2-0 Pac-10) stayed unbeaten with a convincing 188-112 dual meet win over No. 7 Arizona State (5-2, 3-2 Pac-10) in a Pac-10 women's swimming and diving meet at the Avery Aquatic Center on Saturday.

Stanford won 13 of the meet's 16 events and completed a sweep of the Arizona schools after knocking off No. 3 Arizona on Friday.

Freshman Lacey Boutwell won three events for the second consecutive meet with victories in the 50, 100 and 200 yard free. Boutwell's time of 23.55 in the 50 yard free was a new season-best. She clocked in at 50.26 in the 100 yard free and 1:47.96 in the 200 yard free.

Seniors Jessica Foschi and Shelly Ripple each won two events. Foschi, the defending NCAA champion in the 500 yard free, won the event for the 15th consecutive outing with a time of 4:49.98. She also picked up a
victory in the 1650 yard freestyle (16:49.83), remaining unbeaten in the event this season with her third straight win.

Ripple remained unbeaten in the 200 yard fly this year, clocking in at 2:01.55. She also captured the 100 yard fly with an NCAA "A" qualifying time of 54.46, just edging ASU's Sarah Baham at 54.84. Ripple recorded another NCAA "A" qualifying and season-best mark by finishing second in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:15.04.

Sophomore Tara Kirk remained undefeated during her collegiate career in the 100 yard breast with her 13th straight victory in the event in a time of 1:00.66, just .01 seconds shy of her own pool record set in 2001. Kirk finished second in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:11.28) behind 2000 Olympic gold medalist Agnes Kovacs, whose 2:10.40 is the fastest time ever recorded in a dual meet. Naturally, Kovacs' time set a new pool record and Kirk's mark also eclipsed her own previous pool record.

Kovacs finished second to Kirk in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:01.17) as both swimmers recorded NCAA "A" marks in both the 100 and 200 yard breast.

Kovacs won her second event of the meet by recording an NCAA "A" mark in the 400 yard IM (4:13.95).

Other Stanford swimmers with individual victories were senior Alexis Oakland (200 yard back, 2:01.20) and freshman Amy Wagner (100 yard back, 55.96). Oakland's time was a season-best.

Stanford also picked up victories in both diving events as junior McKenze Murphy (283.80) and senior Kim Powers (297.15) swept the 1-meter and 3-meter
competitions, respectively. Both point totals reached their respective NCAA qualifying standards. Murphy¹s mark was a new career-best, while Powers recorded a season-best.

The teams split the two relay events. Stanford captured the 200 yard medley relay by setting a new pool record (1:41.22) with a team of Wagner, Kirk,
Ripple and freshman Sarah Jones. The Sun Devils won the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:34.77) with a team of freshman Florencia Szigeti, sophomore Florence Mauro, senior Sarah Baham and junior Claire Hedenskog.

Other Sun Devil runner-up finishers included senior Amanda Stanford in the 1650y free (16:51.15), sophomore Miranda Shald in the 100y backstroke (56.56) and freshman Florencia Szigeti in both the 50y free (24.11) and 100y free (50.99).

The Stanford women's swimming and diving team will next travel to No. 11 UCLA and No. 10 USC for a pair of dual meets next Friday (February 1) and Saturday (February 2).

Although closer to home, the Sun Devil swimming and diving teams hit the road again next weekend when they meet the University of Texas at the University of Arizona's Hillenbrand Aquatic Complex in Tucson, Ariz., February 1-2. Friday's meet is scheduled to begin 2:00 p.m. MST, with Saturday's meet starting at 9:00 a.m. MST. The Sun Devil women will follow the away meets by hosting Northern Arizona University at noon at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center, Sunday, February 3.

FINAL TEAM SCORE
Stanford 188
Arizona State 112

RESULTS

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS:
200 Yard Medley Relay
1, Stanford –
