Though Conger said in his interview on The Morning Swim Show<\/i><\/a> last October that he plans to swim the 500 freestyle at his high school championships in February, Conger stepped up in two different individual events this weekend.<\/p>\n

After doing butterfly duties on the 200 medley relay for the Our Lady of Good Counsel squad, Conger posted a 1:48.18 in the 200 IM and a 44.27 in the 100 free. He also swam the anchor leg on his team's 400 free relay, but splits were not immediately made available.<\/p>\n

The 200 IM is a lifetime best, an event he last swam in January 2011. As for the 100 free, it is a little less than a second slower than the relay leadoff time of 43.39 he posted at last December's Tom Dolan Invitational.<\/p>\n

Conger is putting a lot of his focus this high school season on the revered national high school record in the 500 free, set in May 1983 by Jeff Kostoff with a 4:16.39. Conger got close to the record last February, posting a 4:17.51 for the independent high school record.<\/p>\n

Conger could also be a factor in the national high school rankings in the 100 free, if he decides to swim the leadoff leg for Good Counsel on the 400 free relay next month. His lifetime best is about a second away from David Nolan's national high school record of 42.34 and very close to Ryan Murphy's independent high school record of 42.95.<\/p>\n

Conger has not stated if he'll swim a second individual event, but the 100 backstroke is a likely candidate. If he jumps into that event, he'll be putting Murphy's national high school record of 45.34 on notice. Conger swam a 45.32<\/a> at the Tom Dolan Invitational, which was not a sanctioned high school meet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
