{"id":332456,"date":"2018-10-09T08:00:12","date_gmt":"2018-10-09T15:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=332456"},"modified":"2018-10-08T10:14:12","modified_gmt":"2018-10-08T17:14:12","slug":"pac-12-weekly-preview-stanford-opens-with-two-meets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pac-12-weekly-preview-stanford-opens-with-two-meets\/","title":{"rendered":"Pac-12 Weekly Preview: Stanford Opens With Two Meets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Dan D&#8217;Addona.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Pac-12 Conference has opened its swimming &amp; diving season, and while some teams have started with a tune-up meet, this week will be the first full week of competition throughout the conference.<\/p>\n<p>The action will span the entire week with meets Tuesday-Sunday in different parts of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford has two meets this week.<\/p>\n<p>The Cardinal start by hosting Utah at 2 p.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday in the season opener for the two-time NCAA defending champions.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Stanford travels to Washington State for its first road meet of the season.<\/p>\n<p>This is a different Stanford team, but looks to be just as dominant. The Cardinal no longer have <strong>Katie Ledecky, Simone Manuel, Kassidy Cook, Janet Hu<\/strong> or <strong>Ally Howe<\/strong> \u2014\u00a0all Olympians or NCAA champions.<\/p>\n<p>But the Cardinal has plenty of star power with NCAA swimmer of the year <strong>Ella Eastin<\/strong> returning after a dominating performance at the NCAA championships.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Katie Drabot<\/strong> also is coming off of a fantastic year and will look to build on that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Megan Byrnes, Brooke Forde, Leah Stevens Allie Szekely, Kim Williams<\/strong> and <strong>Grace Zhao<\/strong> also have had big performances in the past and will be even more pivotal to <a href=\"https:\/\/gostanford.com\/roster.aspx?path=wswim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Cardinal this year.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There also is some freshman impact on this Stanford team with <strong>Taylor Ruck, Zoe Bartel<\/strong> and <strong>Allie Raab<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford has won 23 straight dual meets. The Cardinal&#8217;s last defeat in a dual was to No. 3 Cal on Feb. 14, 2015\u2014which also marks a string of 21 straight Pac-12 dual meet victories since that loss. The Cardinal has also won 16 straight dual meets at home dating back to Oct. 30, 2014 against Texas (156-144).<\/p>\n<p>The Stanford men also open with Utah on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abrahm DeVine, Ryan Dudzinski, Alex Liang, Grant Shoults<\/strong> and <strong>True Sweetser<\/strong> lead the m<a href=\"https:\/\/gostanford.com\/roster.aspx?path=mswim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">en\u2019s team<\/a> that should be a contender in the conference.<\/p>\n<p>The Stanford men will also compete in the Princeton invite this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Utah swims at Cal.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the Utah men host Colorado Mesa.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona hosts GCU on Saturday and Washington State hosts Boise State on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Dan D&#8217;Addona.
