OUR last poll question about the best city to host the 2016 US Olympic Swimming Trials garnered a near-record number of votes, resulting in a two-city battle between past host Omaha, Nebraska, and potential host San Antonio, Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Comments on our website gave good reasons for choosing one or the other city, and in the end, it was San Antonio that got the most votes with 56.05 percent, boosted mostly like by a last-minute Twitter call from the city&#039;s Convention and Visitors Bureau. Omaha was well back in second 37.11 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The four other cities in the running &#8212; Greensboro, North Carolina, Indianapolis, Indiana, Jacksonville, Florida, and St. Louis, Missouri &#8212; couldn&#039;t muster up public support, with none of them getting votes in the double-digit percentages.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, this poll is not going to do much in determining which city gets the nod, but maybe the committee at USA Swimming that will be doing site visits and making recommendations were swayed a little bit by the results.<\/p>\n<p>Now, let&#039;s move on to a new poll. Last weekend, we learned that swimmers on the Australian national team had a severe restriction put on them in terms of their interaction with social media during official team events. Emily Seebohm, who won silver in the 100 back at the London Olympics, even said she was so focused on Twitter that she didn&#039;t take the time to mentally focus on racing. National team head coach Leigh Nugent said the restriction was designed to give athletes the desire to focus on team building and performance, and not on keeping in touch with fans.
