DYLAN Carter, who won two individual junior national titles last December in his first major meet since moving from his home in Trinidad and Tobago, is making another big move across the country to swim at the University of Southern California.<\/p>\n<p>His verbal commitment today to train with Dave Salo&#039;s Trojans comes with a bit of a twist: He won&#039;t arrive in Los Angeles until January 2014, using the fall 2013semester to train with Davie Nadadores head coach Alex Pussieldi. Carter is expected to graduate this spring from American Heritage.<\/p>\n<p>Carter did an interview for an upcoming segment of <i>The Morning Swim Show<\/i> this week, just days before making his commitment. As he mentions in the following video clip from the interview, he had already taken a recruiting trip to the University of Arizona, and had planned to visit Louisville, Michigan and UC-Berkeley.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/blip.tv\/play\/hKkHg43FZQA.x?p=1\" width=\"470\" height=\"380\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Pussieldi today said: &#8220;For me, it was a big surprise (that he made) his decision prior to taking all his trips, but I understand USC always was his school dream. We will continue our training focus on his goals and less distractions over this period. Dylan is an outstanding swimmer with enough potential to succeed at USC and NCAAs. We are very proud for his decision and wishing Coach Salo good luck on the next chapter of Dylan&#039;s career.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Carter won the short course yards junior national titles in the 200 freestyle (1:35.29) and 100 backstroke (47.22) at the December championships as a 16-year-old, less than four months after moving to the United States from Trinidad. He also placed third in the 50 free with a 19.94 and fourth in the 100 free with a 43.84. It marked his third short course yards meet <i>ever<\/i>. In long course, USA Swimming&#039;s database lists a 51.10 in the 100 free from the Bahamas summer nationals, as well as a 23.65 in the 50 free and 55.79 in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n<p>Carter qualified to compete for Trinidad and Tobago alongside legend George Bovell at this summer&#039;s world championships, but elected to swim at the FINA junior world championships to have a more competition schedule.<\/p>\n<p>We will bring you the full interview with Carter next week on <i>The Morning Swim Show,<\/i> so come back to learn more about this rising star.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DAVIE, Florida, January 25.
