BROOKLYN, NY. Northeast Water Polo Conference\u2014boasting #7 Harvard<\/a> and #12 Princeton<\/a>, the two highest ranked teams in the East\u2014began conference play<\/a> last week, again revealing the appeal and idiosyncrasies of the sport on this coast. Swimming World<\/em> was on hand for all the matches recently played at St. Francis Brooklyn<\/a>, including wins by the Terriers over Iona, Brown, MIT and the Tigers.<\/p>\n

With one of the smaller pools in NCAA varsity water polo, The Pope Athletic Center is a consistently inhospitable destination for opponents. Harvard Head Coach Ted Minnis<\/strong>\u2014whose Crimson recently escaped<\/a> from Brooklyn Heights with a win\u2014recently called the cacophonous environs \u201cthe loudest place to play;\u201d it should come a little surprise that the Terriers boast a 41-10 record at home over the past decade.<\/p>\n

Interviews with Harvard\u2019s Minnis, Brown Head Coach Felix Mercado<\/strong>, MIT new Head Coach Bret Lathrope<\/strong> and Princeton\u2019s Head Coach Dustin Litvack<\/strong>\u2014also new this season\u2014provide insights about what makes Eastern polo distinctive, thoughts about how their respective teams will fare\u00a0in NWPC play this season, and the impact of revised rule interpretations on NCAA competition.<\/p>\n
