THE 14th-ranked Virginia women&#39;s swimming and diving team kept it perfect dual meet record intact with a 131-111 victory over South Carolina Saturday (January 26) at the Carolina Natatorium. <\/p>\n<p>The 12th-ranked UVa men weren&#39;t as fortunate as the Cavaliers fell to the eighth-ranked Gamecocks 124-119.  <\/p>\n<p>The UVa women improve to 8-0 overall, while the Virginia men fall to 6-2 on the season.<\/p>\n<p>The Virginia women won seven of 13 events in its 131-111 win with junior Cara Lane (Charlotte, N.C.\/ Providence) earning three of the victories.  Lane turned in a season-best times in winning the 1000 free (9:46.63), 200 butterfly (2:01.21) and 500 free (4:50.32). <\/p>\n<p>Lane bettered the NCAA &quot;B&quot; qualifying time in the 500 free and 200 fly. <\/p>\n<p>Junior Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje, Macedonia\/Trinity Prep) just missed automatically qualifying for the NCAAs in the 400 individual medley by winning with a season-best time of 4:17.06. <\/p>\n<p>Bosevska was also second in the 200 backstroke (2:05.88) and third in the 200 fly (2:03.42).  <\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Amy Baly (Atlanta, Ga.\/Marist School) won the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:21.88, while<br \/>\nsoph Carlie Dykehouse (Gainesville, Fla.\/Trinity Prep) clocked a time of 1:50.20 in winning the 200 freestyle.  Baly also finished second in the 400 IM and 500 free with times of 4:22.82 and 4:56.44,<br \/>\nrespectively.  <\/p>\n<p>The Cavaliers also won the meet-opening 400 medley<br \/>\nrelay with a time of 3:53.64.  Quinn Amesbury (Vienna,<br \/>\nVa.\/James Madison), Caitlin Anderson (Charlottesville,<br \/>\nVa.\/St. Anne&#39;s) Andrea Georoff (Winter Park, Fla.\/<br \/>\nTrinity Prep) and Laura Lipskis (St. Charles, Ill.\/St. Charles East) all swam legs on the winning relay.  <\/p>\n<p>Megan Roesch (Columbia, Md.\/Wilde Lake) earned second-place finishes in the 50 free (23.56) and 100 free (51.71), while Coco Buck (Herndon, Va.\/Herndon) was second in the 20 breast with a season-best time of 2:22.72.<\/p>\n<p>The Cavalier men fell to 6-2 on the season with a 124-119 loss to South Carolina.  The Gamecocks won the final event of the meet, the 400 free relay, to pull out the victory.  <\/p>\n<p>UVa won five events in the meet and had a number of second-place finishes.  Virginia won the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:23.59 to take an early lead in the meet.  Juniors Brian Best (Columbia, Md.\/Wilde Lake) and Jon Baird (Nashville, Tenn.\/Montgomery Bell Academy) and freshmen Chris Cooper (Sparta, N.J.\/ Sparta) and Jon Haag (Ashland, Ohio\/Ashland) swam legs on the winning medley relay.  <\/p>\n<p>Junior Dan DeMarco (Great Neck, N.Y.\/Great Neck South) then posted a season-best time of 9:10.19 in winning the 1000 freestyle.  A trio of Cavalier sophomores accounted for the other UVa victories in the meet.<\/p>\n<p>Luke Anderson (Charlottesville, Va.\/Bolles School) won the 100 free with a time of 44.62, while Luke Wagner (Englewood, Colo.\/Regis Jesuit) touched in 1:47.65 in winning the 200 backstroke.  Ian Prichard (Ventura, Calif.\/Buena) rounded out Virginia&#39;s event winners<br \/>\nin the 500 free with a time of 4:28.74.  Anderson was also second in the 50 free with a season-best time of 20.17.  <\/p>\n<p>Bo Greenwood (Manakin, Va.\/Goochland) picked up a pair of second-place finishes.  He was second in the 400 individual medley with a season-best and NCAA &quot;B&quot; qualifying time of 3:54.02 and was also second in the 200 backstroke (1:49.90).  <\/p>\n<p>Michael Raab (Rockville, Md.\/Walter Johnson) was second in the 200 butterfly (1:47.79), while Pete Amstutz (St. Joseph, Mich.\/St. Joseph) was runner-up in the one-meter diving with season-best 321.23<br \/>\npoints.  <\/p>\n<p>The Cavaliers return to action on Sunday, February 3 when both squads host Pittsburgh at the UVa Aquatic and Fitness Center.
