BERLIN, Jan. 26. ED Moses lost one of the world records he set only days ago in Stockholm, but the Curl-Burke swim star continued to improve on his 200 meter mark, taking it where no man has gone before — indeed, where no other man has even thought<\/i> of going before.<\/p>\n
Ukraine's Oleg Lisogor, the world champion in the 50 meter breaststroke at last summer's World Championships in Japan, took the short course 50 meter mark away from Moses when he clocked a stunning 26.20 seconds. Moses' old mark, still dripping wet from four days ago, was 26.28. Moses was second today in 26.48–the third fastest time in history.<\/p>\n
Undeterred, Moses came back less than an hour later to lower his own world mark in the 200m breaststroke for the third time in less than two weeks. Moses' 2:03.17 shaved 11-hundredths off his 2:03.28 from Stockholm.<\/p>\n
Moses originally set the world mark at 2:06.40 at the 2000 NCAA Championships. Less than two weeks ago, in Paris, he stunned the swimming world by clocking 2:04.37. Then came his 2:03.28 in Stockholm, before today's 2:03.17. <\/p>\n
In today's race, Moses won by almosts six seconds over Olympic silver medalist Terrence Parkin of South Africa.<\/p>\n
Australia's Geoff Huegill lowered his own global standard of 22.84 in the 50 fly, a time he had set in Melbourne last December and equaled last week, when he stopped the clock at 22.74 seconds in the prelims today. In the fianls he swam 22.80.<\/p>\n
Dallas-based Martina Moravcova, of Slovakia, scored the fourth record of the day when she shaved one-hundredth of a second off Jenny Thompson's 100 meter butterfly record with her 56.55 second effort.<\/p>\n

Women's Events<\/b>
\nThe USA's Lindsay Benko was a double winner, smashing her own American record in the 200 free with a scintillating 1:55.16 performance. Her old mark, set last December was 1:56.21. Displaying her versatility,
\nBenko came back to win the 200 back in a personal best 2:06.86.<\/p>\n
Sweden's Emma Igelstrom lowered her own European mark in the 100m braeststroke. Her 1:06.14 bettered the 1:06.21 she swam in Stockholm. Tomorrow, the Swede will also be aiming for her own global mark of 30.43
\nin the 50 breast, a time she swam in Stockholm three days ago.<\/p>\n
Australia's Amanda Pascoe carved three seconds off the Commonwealth record in the 800 free, as she cruised to a convincing 12-second win. Pascoe's 8:17.64 erased the 8:20.13 by Jamaica's Janelle Atkinson last November.<\/p>\n
Canada's Jennifer Carroll lowered her own national mark in winning the 50 back (27.21) over the USA's Haley Cope, while Olympic champ, Yana Klochkova, won handily in the 200 IM (2:09.24). China's Xu Yanwei won the 50 free in 24.91, as only 8-hundredths separated the top three swimmers.<\/p>\n
Men's Events<\/b>
\nThe USA's Jason Lezak remained undefeated in the 100 free, but he was pushed to the limit. Lezak, clocked 47.30 seconds for the four lap sprint, just 5-hundredths slower than his world-leading time. Argentina's Jose Meolans was only three-hundredths behind in a national record 47.33, while Algeria's Salim Iles was third in 47.54, also a national record.<\/p>\n
Lenny Krayzelburg made his competitive debut after undergoing should surgery last fall, and he looked good in placing second in the 100 back (52.38) behind Germany's Thomas Rupprath (51.35).<\/p>\n
Another german, Jens Kruppa, won a closely-contested 100 IM in 54.60. South Africa's Theo verster was second (54.68), followed by the USA's Ron Karnaugh (54.73).<\/p>\n
Britain's James Hickman, the European champion, won the 200 fly in 153.20; Terrence Parkin took the 400 IM (4:10.39), nd Italy's massi Rosolino won the 400 free (3:43.38).<\/p>\n
