{"id":330990,"date":"2018-09-29T01:35:47","date_gmt":"2018-09-29T08:35:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=330990"},"modified":"2018-09-29T12:03:21","modified_gmt":"2018-09-29T19:03:21","slug":"summer-stanfield-follows-sister-stacey-to-lsu-with-verbal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/summer-stanfield-follows-sister-stacey-to-lsu-with-verbal\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer Stanfield Follows Sister&#8217;s Footsteps With Verbal to LSU Tigers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>A native of St. John&#8217;s, Fla.,\u00a0<strong>Summer Stanfield\u00a0<\/strong>has given her verbal to Louisiana State as a member of the class of 2023.\u00a0Her older sister,\u00a0<strong>Stacey Stanfield,\u00a0<\/strong>competed for the Tigers from 2012-16.<\/p>\n<p>The eight-time Junior National qualifier swims year-round for Storm Swim Club and concluded her long course season with six finals appearances at Gainesville Speedo Sectionals and a trio of new best times at Southern Zone Senior Championships. She competed in six events at Junior Nationals East last winter and recorded a 19th-place finish in the 200 free.<\/p>\n<p>Stanfield also competes for Bertram Trail and has finished in the top three of all her events raced at the\u00a0FHSAA 3A State Championships throughout her high school career.\u00a0The NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American was the runner-up in the 200 IM and 100 back as a junior.\u00a0She earned the silver and bronze, respectively, in those same events during her sophomore campaign and won the 200 IM as a freshman.<\/p>\n<p>She told\u00a0<em>Swimming World:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>\u201cThe LSU swim team has an amazing energy and team dynamic that I cannot wait to become a part of. I am blessed with such supportive coaches, family members, and teammates who have given me the opportunity to attend my dream school. I am so excited to see what is in store for me at LSU. Geaux Tigers!&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Her best times include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100 fly &#8211; 55.30<\/li>\n<li>200 fly &#8211; 2:02.28<\/li>\n<li>200 IM &#8211; 2:01.74<\/li>\n<li>400 IM &#8211; 4:23.29<\/li>\n<li>100 back &#8211; 56.35<\/li>\n<li>200 back &#8211; 1:59.42<\/li>\n<li>200 free &#8211; 1:49.00<\/li>\n<li>500 free &#8211; 4:51.05<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Stanfield&#8217;s versatility will be extremely valuable when she arrives in Baton Rouge for the 2019-20 season and she could find herself competing in a variety of events. Both her best butterfly times would&#8217;ve ranked in the top-5 on the Tigers&#8217; lineup last season while her 200 IM would&#8217;ve been the second-fastest.
