{"id":330572,"date":"2018-09-25T13:18:12","date_gmt":"2018-09-25T20:18:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=330572"},"modified":"2018-09-25T13:18:12","modified_gmt":"2018-09-25T20:18:12","slug":"greek-national-record-holder-nicole-pavlopoulou-gives-verbal-to-usc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/greek-national-record-holder-nicole-pavlopoulou-gives-verbal-to-usc\/","title":{"rendered":"Greek National Record-Holder Nicole Pavlopoulou Gives Verbal to USC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>The\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">University of Southern California has just gained a new verbal commitment from Greece&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nicole Pavlopoulou,\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>who will join the Trojans as a member of the class of 2023.<\/p>\n<p>She swims for\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">Oceanos Swimming Club of Athens under head coach <strong>Dimitris Damasiotis<\/strong> and is a member of Greece&#8217;s National Team.\u00a0Pavlopoulou, who is\u00a0preparing to travel to Argentina for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games taking place Oct. 6-18 in Buenos Aires,\u00a0specializes in breaststroke and IM.\u00a0She holds several Greek national records in both LCM and SCM and also has three European Swimming League Multi-Nations Championship records.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>She most recently competed at the European Junior Championships where she finished sixth in both the 200m IM and 200m breast. She represented Greece in all three breaststroke races at the European Championships and made the semi-finals of the 200m IM.\u00a0She also<span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0raced at the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships last summer and advanced to the semi-final of the 100m breast.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>She told\u00a0<em>Swimming World:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #a80d0d;\"><strong>\u201cIt gives me a great pleasure to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Southern California (USC) and its esteemed swimming program as of Fall \u201819.\u00a0It is simply an honor to have the opportunity to study in one of the top universities of USA and coached by the legendary David Salo and the rest of his coaching stuff.\u00a0I will be eagerly awaiting and counting the days to move to LA to be a #trojan and work hard and smart with my coaches and my future teammates.\u00a0I am looking forward to become a valuable contributor to the Trojan\u2019s Swimming Program and develop further my swimming at the highest possible level.\u00a0#fighton Trojans&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In LCM, her best times include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 IM &#8211; 2:16.34<\/li>\n<li>200 breast &#8211; 2:28.68<\/li>\n<li>100 breast &#8211; 1:10.38<\/li>\n<li>50 breast &#8211; 32.44<\/li>\n<li>50 free &#8211; 26.25<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In SCY, those times convert to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 IM &#8211; 1:59.57<\/li>\n<li>200 breast &#8211; 2:12.02<\/li>\n<li>100 breast &#8211; 1:01.93<\/li>\n<li>50 breast &#8211; 28.44<\/li>\n<li>50 free &#8211; 23.12<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pavlopoulou is a valuable pickup for the Trojans when she arrives in California next fall. Her best 200 IM, 100 breast and 200 breast time converted to SCY would&#8217;ve all placed in the B-final at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships.
