{"id":330532,"date":"2018-09-25T12:13:07","date_gmt":"2018-09-25T19:13:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=330532"},"modified":"2018-09-25T12:13:07","modified_gmt":"2018-09-25T19:13:07","slug":"purdue-receives-verbal-from-michael-juengel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/purdue-receives-verbal-from-michael-juengel\/","title":{"rendered":"Purdue Receives Verbal From South Carolina 5A State Champ Michael Juengel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>Purdue University has picked up a verbal commitment from Greer, S.C. native\u00a0<strong>Michael Juengel\u00a0<\/strong>who will join the Boilermakers as a member of the class of 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Primarily a backstroker, Juengel does his club swimming with\u00a0Y-Spartaquatics Swim Club under head coach\u00a0<strong>Dan Mascolo.\u00a0<\/strong>He most recently swam his way to a pair of best times at Junior Nationals this past summer. At Y Nationals in April, he earned the bronze in the 100 back and finished sixth in the 200 back.<\/p>\n<p>Also representing Riverside High School,\u00a0Juengel has qualified for the SCHSL State Championships all three years. As a sophomore, he won the 100 back and\u00a0defended his title as a junior in addition to a 200 free runner-up finish. He has also achieved the Winter Junior standard in both backstroke distances.<\/p>\n<p>He told\u00a0<em>Swimming World:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;I chose Purdue because of the great academics, team atmosphere, and coaches. I&#8217;m excited to continue my academic and swimming career at Purdue. Boiler Up!&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>His best times include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100 back &#8211; 49.16<\/li>\n<li>200 back &#8211; 1:47.87<\/li>\n<li>200 IM &#8211; 1:51.73<\/li>\n<li>200 free &#8211; 1:41.59<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Juengel will provide the Boilermakers with more backstroke depth when he arrives in West Lafayette for the 2019-20 season.\u00a0He currently sits just outside of scoring range at the Big Ten Championships and will join a training group that includes\u00a0<strong>Kaleb Gould, Kiki Komlenic, Brady Robinson\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Nikola Acin.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEW COMMIT:\u00a0Purdue University has picked up a verbal commitment from Greer, S.C. native\u00a0Michael Juengel\u00a0who will join the Boilermakers as a member of the class of 2023.
