NEWS from Australia today is reporting that Eamon Sullivan is taking the year off from competition to recuperate from surgery to heal a torn bicep tendon, as well as figure out if he wants to continue on and swim for a spot on the Australian 2016 Olympic team. Sullivan&#039;s chances of making an unprecedented fourth Olympic team are low, but not impossible, and if he can stay healthy in the next three years, anything can happen. Sullivan was part of that 400 free relay that was predestined to win gold in London, but instead placed fourth. Sullivan told reporters after the Olympics that he swam through the meet with that bicep injury, which had hindered his performance.<\/p>\n<p>Missy Franklin will be part of the pre-game festivities tonight at the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, not too far from the Swimming World TV studio. Franklin will take part in the coin toss and a few other activities before the 6:30 p.m. game between Oregon and Kansas State. Franklin has been training with the Scottsdale Aquatic Club while she&#039;s in town, getting ready for the Austin Grand Prix meet in two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Several college teams are in various locations around the country getting in some tough holiday training while soaking up some sun. NCAA rules require teams that travel for holiday training to participate in a meet at their training site, and today we&#039;ll see eight teams compete in the annual Orange Bowl Classic in the Florida Keys. The University of Michigan will be the top team there, but they will also race against George Mason and Dartmouth, among others. The Wolverines have a connection to the Florida Keys. In 2008, Mike Bottom, the current Michigan head coach, was there training Nathan Adrian, Milorad Cavic and others with The Race Club before the Beijing Olympics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX, Arizona, January 3.
