NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>In what is shaping up to be a stellar recruiting class, Virginia Tech has just received a new verbal commitment from\u00a0Brooke Travis.<\/strong>\u00a0She was\u00a0recently named to the U.S. Junior National team\u00a0<\/a>for 10K Open Water.<\/p>\n

Travis will join\u00a0Hannah Virgin<\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0Morgan Miller<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Ashley Worden<\/a>, Shelby Raber<\/a><\/strong> and Rose Pouch<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>as members of the Hokie class of 2023.<\/p>\n

Swimming year-round with Nation’s Capital under the legendary Bruce Gemmel<\/strong>, the Newark, Del. native is a four-time U.S. Open qualifier. At the 2018 Open Water Nationals in May, Travis finished 15th in the 10K (1:57.27) to be named to the U.S. National Junior Team in the event.<\/p>\n

She has made great strides over the past season in the pool, shaving three seconds off her 500 free, six off her 1000, 19 from her mile, five in her 200 IM and seven from her 400 IM.\u00a0She capped off a strong summer season with 100% best times at Junior Nationals and recorded an eighth-place finish in the 1500m free (16:53.49). She also swam her way to victory in the 200m back (2:18.58) at the Potomac Valley Senior Championships in July.<\/p>\n
