He will arrive in Ann Arbor in the fall of 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The Fraser, Mich. native does his club swimming with Grosse Pointe Gators under head coach <strong>John Fodell <\/strong>and is a six-time Junior National qualifier with a Nationals cut in the 400 IM. He capped off the long course season as a four-time finalist at the NCSA Summer Championships and recorded lifetime bests in four events. At the Michigan LSC Championships in March, Capizzo won all six of his events.<\/p>\n<p>Capizzo also swims for Fraser High School and is a four-time MHSAA D2 state champion. As a freshman, he won both the 200 IM (1:50.21) and 500 free (4:29.06) and repeated as champion in the same events (1:50.42, 4:27.48) during his sophomore campaign. He has also earned NISCA All-American honors twice during his career thus far.<\/p>\n<p>He told <em>Swimming World:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><span style=\"color: #06069c;\"><strong>&#8220;I am honored and thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim at the University of Michigan! The team is perfect for me; they all motivate each other to work harder and to swim faster. It is the college of my dreams. Equally important, Michigan has an excellent academic program that has everything I will need to help me thrive. I would also like to thank my parents and all of the coaches that have helped me get to this point. I can\u2019t wait to be part of a team that shares a bond like no other.\u00a0Go Blue!&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>His best times include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>500 free \u2013 4:27.48<\/li>\n<li>1000 free \u2013 9:23.14<\/li>\n<li>1650 free \u2013 15:44.60<\/li>\n<li>200 fly \u2013 1:50.32<\/li>\n<li>200 IM \u2013 1:50.21<\/li>\n<li>400 IM \u2013 3:55.77<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When Capizzo arrives on campus for the 2020-21 season, he\u2019ll have one year of overlap to train with top returning distance swimmers <strong>Ricardo Vargas <\/strong>and<strong> Will Roberts. <\/strong>Still with two seasons to go before suiting up for Michigan, Capizzo\u2019s best 400 IM and mile time would\u2019ve sat just outside of scoring range at the 2018 Big Ten Championships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEW COMMIT: High school junior Alexander Capizzo has given the University of Michigan its first verbal commitment for the class of 2024.
