{"id":329422,"date":"2018-09-16T13:42:39","date_gmt":"2018-09-16T20:42:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=329422"},"modified":"2018-09-16T13:42:39","modified_gmt":"2018-09-16T20:42:39","slug":"cana-african-swimming-and-open-water-championship-egypt-tops-south-africa-in-medals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cana-african-swimming-and-open-water-championship-egypt-tops-south-africa-in-medals\/","title":{"rendered":"CANA African Swimming and Open Water Championship: Egypt Tops South Africa in Medals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The South African swimming team concluded the 13<sup>th<\/sup> CANA Africa Swimming and Open Water Championships today with an\u00a0 total of 40 medals (12 gold, 18 silver and 10 bronze) and claimed the second spot on the medal table behind Egypt&#8217;s 48.<\/p>\n<p>On the final day of the event, <strong>Sasha-Lee Nordengen<\/strong> came close to a medal in the ladies\u2019 5km Open Water race, in a hard fought swim with Algeria\u2019s <strong>Cherouati Souad Nafissa<\/strong> but it was the experienced Algerian that came out on top in <span data-term=\"goog_2095101879\">1:02:49.02<\/span>, while Nordenden finished fourth in <span data-term=\"goog_2095101880\">1:04:44.43<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amica Dejager<\/strong> ended 7<sup>th<\/sup> in <span data-term=\"goog_2095101881\">1:05:03.59<\/span>, <strong>Samantha Randle<\/strong> came in 9<sup>th<\/sup> in <span data-term=\"goog_2095101882\">1:05:28.86<\/span>, Kaitlyn Albertyn was 11<sup>th<\/sup> in <span data-term=\"goog_2095101883\">1:06:41.92<\/span> and <strong>Tasneem Ebrahim<\/strong> finished 14<sup>th<\/sup> in <span data-term=\"goog_2095101884\">1:10:32.17<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s 5km Open Water race, the battle was between Egypt\u2019s <strong>Marwan Elmarawy<\/strong> and <strong>Darren Minnies<\/strong>.
