Algiers, Saturday, 15th September 2018 – Another proudly South African day for the national swimming team, as they raised their medal tally to 40 during the second last day of the 13th CANA Africa Swimming and Open Water Championships in Algiers.<\/p>\n

Samantha Randle\u2019s<\/strong> time of 2:17.15 won her the gold medal in the 200m backstroke ahead of team mate Hannah Kiely<\/strong>, who clocked 2:22.01 to claim the silver in the event. The bronze went to Morocco\u2019s Fahsi Hiba<\/strong> in 2:22.18.<\/p>\n

Later in the evening, Randle made her way to the medal podium again, this time for a bronze medal in the 1500m freestyle when she finished the race in 17:25.08.<\/p>\n

Ayrton Sweeney<\/strong> followed with a silver medal in the 200m individual medley in 2:02.16, with the gold going to Egypt\u2019s Mohamed Samy<\/strong> in 2:01.21 and the bronze to Algeria\u2019s Balamane M in 2:05.23.<\/p>\n

Sweeney also bagged a silver medal with Alard Basson<\/strong>, Jacques van Wyk<\/strong> and Alaric Basson<\/strong> in the 4x100m medley relay in 3:43.21.<\/p>\n

In the 200m butterfly, Jessica Whelan<\/strong> added a bronze medal to her tally, touching the wall in 2:22.79, behind Egypt\u2019s Rowida Hesham<\/strong> in 2:20.25 and Algeria\u2019s Nefsi Rania Hamida<\/strong> in 2:21.59.<\/p>\n

Lara van Niekerk<\/strong>, Erin Gallagher<\/strong>, Lesley Blignaut<\/strong> and Kiely closed the sixth day of the competition by winning the 4x100m medley relay in 4:12.83. Egypt and Algeria claimed the silver and bronze in 4:15.96 and 4:26.46, respectively.<\/p>\n

The 13th CANA Africa Swimming and Open Water Championships conclude tomorrow with the Open Water 5km races due to start at 11h00 (SA time).<\/p>\n
