Govorov broke the World Cup record in the 50 fly with his time.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 400 IM<\/h3>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>David Verraszto\u00a0<\/strong>won the 400 IM final to start the Saturday session at the 2018 FINA World Cup in Doha. Second was American\u00a0<strong>Michael Andrew\u00a0<\/strong>(23.21), slightly off his 22.9 from US Nationals in July. Hosszu was well in front of\u00a0<strong>Kira Toussaint\u00a0<\/strong>of the Netherlands at the end of the race. Toussaint was a 2:13.24 while China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jiang Yuru\u00a0<\/strong>was third at 2:14.54.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 Back<\/h3>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mitch Larkin\u00a0<\/strong>had a good race with\u00a0<strong>Michael Andrew\u00a0<\/strong>with Larkin getting the upper hand at 53.68 to Andrew&#8217;s 54.11. Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Vladimir Morozov\u00a0<\/strong>picked up his first medal of the night with a bronze at 55.07. Andrew picked up his second medal of the night.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 Fly<\/h3>\n<p>Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to a 56.46 in the 100 fly final to win the event by almost two full seconds over Belgium&#8217;s <strong>Kimberly Buys\u00a0<\/strong>(58.23).\u00a0<strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo\u00a0<\/strong>(59.40) finished in third place in the event.<\/p>\n<p>Sjostrom was a 56.23 at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sarah-sjostrom-rattles-100-fly-world-record-settles-for-56-13\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Championships earlier this summer<\/a> and showed here in Doha that she is not declining. She held off good challenges from long-time Dutch rivals\u00a0<strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo\u00a0<\/strong>(53.29) and\u00a0<strong>Femke Heemskerk\u00a0<\/strong>(53.34). Those three women have been competing against each other for the better of 10 years and seem to be still in the prime of their careers.<\/p>\n<p>The Netherlands had two other swimmers in the final with\u00a0<strong>Kim Busch\u00a0<\/strong>(54.81) and\u00a0<strong>Kira Toussaint\u00a0<\/strong>(55.44).<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Free<\/h3>\n<p>American\u00a0<strong>Blake Pieroni\u00a0<\/strong>has been having a solid meet at the FINA World Cup in Doha with another gold medal in the 200 free. Pieroni swam a 1:47.20 for the gold as he finished two full seconds ahead of\u00a0<strong>Kyle Stolk\u00a0<\/strong>of the Netherlands (1:49.45) and\u00a0<strong>Lorenz Weiremans\u00a0<\/strong>(1:49.68) of Belgium.<\/p>\n<p>Pieroni was not far off his 1:45.93 from US Nationals in July. He was the third fastest American this year behind\u00a0<strong>Townley Haas\u00a0<\/strong>(1:45.56) and\u00a0<strong>Andrew Seliskar\u00a0<\/strong>(1:45.70).<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Breast<\/h3>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Anton Chupkov\u00a0<\/strong>continued his hot streak in the 200 breast with a comfortable 2:08.77 for the gold in Doha. Chupkov was the only man under 2:07 in 2018 with his 2:06.80 from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/anton-chupkov-swims-206-80-in-mens-200-breast-second-fastest-time-ever\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Championships earlier this summer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Chupkov finished well in front of\u00a0<strong>Arno Kamminga\u00a0<\/strong>of the Netherlands\u00a0(2:11.21) and fellow Russian\u00a0<strong>Kirill Prigoda\u00a0<\/strong>(2:11.61).<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 50 Breast<\/h3>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yulia Efimova\u00a0<\/strong>won the 50 breast final with a 30.43 to finish well ahead of fellow Russian\u00a0<strong>Vitalina Simonova\u00a0<\/strong>(32.01) and Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>(32.81). It was a surprisingly small field with only five swimmers on the start list.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 800 Free<\/h3>\n<p>In her third race of the night, Hosszu won 800 free final with a 8:34.58. She was in a good race with China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zhou Chanzhen\u00a0<\/strong>(8:35.67) but got the better of her at the finish. Spain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrea Galisteo\u00a0<\/strong>(8:43.99) finished with the bronze.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 IM<\/h3>\n<p>Appearing in yet another final,\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>picked up another win with a 2:11.57 in the 200 IM to close the Doha World Cup.
