The 2018 FINA Swimming World Cup continued Friday with Day 2 of the event in Doha, Qatar.<\/p>\n

No records were broken on the first day of competition, but many of the best swimmers in the world were back in search of top performances on the second day and a couple of records did fall.<\/p>\n

Here is what happened on Day 2:<\/p>\n

DAY 2 RESULTS<\/a><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 400 IM<\/h3>\n

It is sounding like a broken record, but for the fourth day in the past five in a World Cup event, Hungary\u2019s Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> opened the competition with a victory.<\/p>\n

Hosszu won the 400 IM in 4:39.57 to again go 1-2 with compatriot Zsuzsanna Jakabos<\/strong>, who finished in 4:44.87.<\/p>\n

There were only four competitors in this event as Alba Vazquez Ruiz<\/strong> was third in 4:48.68 and Russia\u2019s Vitalina Simonova<\/strong> was fourth (4:59.54).<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 1500 Free<\/h3>\n

The men\u2019s 1500 free saw just seven competitors, and the race itself wasn\u2019t very close.<\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s Marcos Gil Corbacho<\/strong> led at the 150 and never looked back, winning the event in 15:28.19, leading a 1-2 Spanish finish with Ferran Julia Tous<\/strong> (15:42.84).<\/p>\n

China\u2019s Lin Zheqi<\/strong> was third 15:57.24, edging Hungary\u2019s Danial Dudas<\/strong> (15:57.78).<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 50 Back<\/h3>\n

Michael Andrew<\/strong> of the U.S. continued his strong performances in the sprinting events, winning the 50 back in 24.49.<\/p>\n

The time was six hundredths away from the World Cup record set by Vladimir Morozov<\/strong> last week in Kazan. Morozov finished second in 24.79 on Friday.<\/p>\n

Australia\u2019s Mitch Larkin<\/strong> was third in 25.15, holding off Jesse Puts<\/strong> of the Netherlands, who finished n 25.83.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 200 Free<\/h3>\n

Sweden\u2019s Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> continued her winning ways by winning a close race in the women\u2019s 200 free.<\/p>\n

Sjostrom and Femke Heemskerk<\/strong> of the Netherlands were tied after the 50 at 27.40. Heemskerk then led after the 100 and 150 before Sjostrom\u2019s 29.30 final split gave her the victory. She finished in1:56.32, while Heemskerk finished 1:56.92.<\/p>\n

Hungary\u2019s Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> (2:00.16) and Zsuzsanna Jakabos<\/strong> (2:00.59) finished 3-4 after competing in the 400 IM a half hour earlier.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 200 IM<\/h3>\n

Australia\u2019s Mitch Larkin<\/strong> continued his strong season, too, becoming the only finisher in the 200 IM to break 2 minutes.
\nLarkin was second at the halfway point before a 28.12 final split held off the field.<\/p>\n

Ecuador\u2019s Tomas Peribonio Avila<\/strong> led for the first half of the race before finishing second in 2:00.40.<\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s Krill Prigoda<\/strong> took third at 2:03.47.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 100 Back<\/h3>\n

In one of the closest events of the World Cup season, Hungary\u2019s Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> edged Kira Toussaint<\/strong> of the Netherlands to win the 100 back.<\/p>\n

Hosszu, who has competed in nearly every women\u2019s event a the World Cup, won in 59.63, her third event of the day.<\/p>\n

Toussaint led at the 50 with a 29.20 split, but finished 1:00.05 to finish second.<\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s Tamara Frias Molina<\/strong> was third in 1:02.47 in the five-person event.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 50 Breast<\/h3>\n

Brazil\u2019s Felipe Lima<\/strong> surged to the title in the 50 breast, finishing in 26.84, a tenth of a second off the World Cup record in the event.<\/p>\n

Lima held off Michael Andrew<\/strong> of the U.S., who finished 27.47.<\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s Kirill Prigoda<\/strong> was third in 27.40, ahead of Arno Kamminga<\/strong> of the Netherlands (27.87).<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 50 Fly<\/h3>\n

It took nearly two days but the first World Cup record of the weekend was finally achieved.<\/p>\n

Sweden\u2019s Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> won the 50 fly in 25.22, bettering her own World Cup record of 25.39 set last week in Kazan.<\/p>\n

Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> finished just being in 25.76, pushing Sjostrom the entire race.<\/p>\n

Belgium\u2019s Kimberly Buys<\/strong> finished third (25.94), followed by Kim Busch<\/strong> of the Netherlands (26.26).<\/p>\n

Switzerland\u2019s Sasha Touretski<\/strong> was fifth in 26.95), followed by Kira Toussaint<\/strong> of the Netherlands (27.13).<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 100 Free<\/h3>\n

After the first women\u2019s World Cup record of the meet fell, it didn\u2019t take long for the first men\u2019s record to follow.<\/p>\n

Just minutes later, in the very next event, Blake Pieroni<\/strong> of the U.S. won the 100 free in a World Cup record 48.11.<\/p>\n

Pieroni\u2019s time broke the mark set by South Africa\u2019s Chad le Clos<\/strong>, who swam the race in 28.16 in 2015.<\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s Vladimir Morozov<\/strong> was right behind, finishing in 48.43.<\/p>\n

Belgium\u2019s Pieter Timmers<\/strong> finished third 40.04, one of three Belgians in the final.<\/p>\n

Kyle Stolk<\/strong> (50.22) and Mathys Goosen<\/strong> (50.54) of the Netherlands went 4-5.<\/p>\n

South Africa\u2019s Ryan Coetzee<\/strong> was sixth in 50.76, followed by Belgium\u2019s Lorenz Weiremans<\/strong> (51.04) and Dries<\/strong> VanGoetsenhoven<\/strong> (51.22).<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 100 Breast<\/h3>\n

Russia\u2019s Yulia Efimova<\/strong> continued to shine in the breaststroke, again winning the 100 breast, this time in 1:06.27.<\/p>\n

Compatriot Vitalina Simonova<\/strong> was second in 1:07.90, followed by Zhang Sishi<\/strong> of China, who finished in 1:10.35.<\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s Alba Vazquez Ruiz<\/strong> was fourth in 1:11.25, followed by Hungary\u2019s Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> (1:11.82), her fourth event of the day.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 200 Fly<\/h3>\n

The men\u2019s 200 fly ended up being one of the closest races of the meet despite none of the biggest names being involved in it.<\/p>\n

Azerbaijan\u2019s Maksym Shemberev<\/strong> won the race in 1:59.45, just ahead of Hungary\u2019s David Verraszto<\/strong>, who finished in 1:58.70.<\/p>\n

Shemberev was fifth after the 50, then third after the 100 and second at the 150 behind Verraszto.<\/p>\n

China\u2019s Wu Yuhang<\/strong> was third in 1:59.81.<\/p>\n

Mixed 4×100 Free Relay<\/h3>\n

The Netherlands won the mixed free relay in 3:30.81 to close the second day of competition.<\/p>\n

Kyle Stolk, Jesse Puts, Femke Heemskerk<\/strong> and Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> let from the start and cruised to victory.<\/p>\n

Hungary\u2019s Daniel Dudas, David Verraszto, Zsuzsanna Jakabos<\/strong> and Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> finished second in 3:37.71.<\/p>\n
