At Speedo Juniors East in December, she recorded three personal bests and placed tenth in the 200 breast (2:15.65). She was the runner-up in the 100m breast (1:14.76) at Gainesville Speedo Sectionals\u00a0and recently competed at Junior Nationals in August.<\/p>\n<p>Representing Saint Andrews School, Fetes is a four-time finalist at the\u00a0FHSAA 1A State Championships.\u00a0As a junior, Fetes won the 100 breast by nearly two seconds in a lifetime best of 1:02.40 in addition to placing sixth in the 200 IM (2:04.04). She also split 28.86 on the breaststroke leg to help her team to a runner-up finish in the 4&#215;50 medley relay. Fetes has earned NISCA All-American and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.<\/p>\n<p>She told\u00a0<em>Swimming World:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>&#8220;I&#8217;m very excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Auburn University. I would like to thank my family, coaches, and teammates for the support that has gotten me to this point! I chose Auburn because of the sense of tradition and family, and the AU Family is one I can not wait to be apart of!! War Damn Eagle!!&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Her best times include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100 breast &#8211; 1:02.40<\/li>\n<li>200 breast &#8211; 2:15.65<\/li>\n<li>200 IM &#8211; 2:03.07<\/li>\n<li>400 IM &#8211; 4:25.39<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Her coach,\u00a0<strong>Sid Cassidy<\/strong>, told us:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #2c2c94;\"><strong> &#8220;Shayna is absolutely a joy to coach. She is a true leader and inspires her teammates and coaches alike. She is one of the most focused and determined athletes I have ever been associated with and she does it every day with a smile on her face and a grind in her heart. She refuses to accept anything less than giving her best and I know Coach Gary Taylor and all of the Auburn faithful will be thrilled to have this pocket battleship in their arsenal for the next four years.&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Fetes will be extremely valuable to the Tigers&#8217; breaststroke group when she arrives on campus for the 2019-20 season.\u00a0She will have two years to train with top returning Auburn breaststroker\u00a0<strong>Carly Cummings,\u00a0<\/strong>who scored in the B-final of both distances at the 2018 SEC Championships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEW COMMIT:\u00a0Boca Raton, Fla. native Shayna Fetes\u00a0has announced her intention to swim for Auburn University beginning in the fall of 2019.
