South Africa’s finest added two gold, two silver and three bronze medals to their tally during the fourth day of swimming action at the 13th<\/sup> CANA Africa Swimming and Open Water Championships in Algiers.<\/p>\n

Ayrton Sweeney<\/strong> finished the 200m breaststroke with a new Championship Record time of 2:14.04, winning his second gold of the competition, ahead of Tunisia\u2019s Elloumi Wassim<\/strong> in 2:15.76 and SA\u2019s Alaric Basson<\/strong>, who scooped the bronze in 2:16.16.<\/p>\n

Sweeney and Basson also raced in the 4x100m freestyle relay, where the team, including Jacques van Wyk<\/strong> and Matthew Bowers<\/strong>, walked away with the silver medal in 3:26.80.<\/p>\n

Lara van Niekerk<\/strong> continued to impress when she swam to another gold medal, this time in the 100m breaststroke, clocking 1:11.13, while teammate Jade Simons<\/strong> claimed the bronze in 1:12.19. The silver was won by Egypt\u2019s Rowida<\/strong> Hesham<\/strong> in 1:12.01.<\/p>\n

In the 100m butterfly, Erin Gallagher<\/strong> finished second in a hard fought race with Egypt\u2019s Farida Osman<\/strong>. Gallagher touched the wall in 1:00.45 to Osman\u2019s 59.03, while the bronze medal went the Algeria\u2019s Medjahed Nesrine<\/strong> in 1:04.74.<\/p>\n

It was bronze for Janie Coetzer<\/strong> in the long-distance 800m freestyle, concluding the race in 9:12.79 behind Egypt\u2019s Hania<\/strong> Moro<\/strong> in 8:56.95 and Algeria\u2019s 9:01.68.<\/p>\n

The medal race continued to heat up.<\/p>\n
