TOM Shields had two widely different opinions about his butterfly races at the 2012 USA Swimming winter nationals, despite winning both in times that would seem unreachable by anyone else in the country.<\/p>\n<p>After winning the 100-yard butterfly in 44.88, Shields said the performance was &#8220;frustrating,&#8221; because he&#039;s been hovering in the high 49-second range for three years, even though his time last weekend was done unshaved.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/blip.tv\/play\/hKkHg4qtRAA.x?p=1\" width=\"470\" height=\"380\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Watch the 100 fly race in the video player below:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"470\" height=\"264\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0M99PHTxqbg\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>What Shields said he learned from the 100 fly race was to make his underwater kicks more aggressive, and it appears he applied that in the 200 fly final the following day, where he swam to a lifetime best time.
