The first cluster of stops features athletes from around the globe, with handfuls of top swimmers from the United States, Russia, South Africa, and across Europe. Take a look below for a full recap of the first prelims session of the meet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2018-fina-world-cup-kazan-day-3\/international-elite\/2018\/September\/7\">2018 FINA World Cup Kazan &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The first session of the three day meet kicked off with the 400 freestyles, where Hungarians\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>(4:17.06) and\u00a0<strong>Daniel Dudas\u00a0<\/strong>(3:57.61) cruised to top seeds.<\/p>\n<p>Australian\u00a0<strong>Mitch Larkin<\/strong>, who is coming off a very successful summer with five gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and four medals from Pan Pacs, is back in the pool here, claiming the top seed in the men&#8217;s 200 back by more than four seconds with a 2:00.19.<\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 100 fly looks to be the event to watch in the first day of the meet, with South African <strong>Ryan Coetzee\u00a0<\/strong>finishing just ahead of\u00a0American\u00a0<strong>Michael Andrew\u00a0<\/strong>and fellow South African\u00a0<strong>Chad le Clos<\/strong>\u00a0this morning. Coetzee took the top seed in 52.52, while Andrew and le Clos were just behind in 52.60 and 52.67, respectively. Also joining those three under 53 seconds this morning were Russians\u00a0<strong>Egor Kuimov\u00a0<\/strong>(52.82) and\u00a0<strong>Danhiil Pakhomov\u00a0<\/strong>(52.99), setting up what should be a tight final.<\/p>\n<p>Russian\u00a0<strong>Anton Chupkov\u00a0<\/strong>was the only man under 1:00 in the 100 breast this morning, hitting the wall in 59.98. Chupkov was the bronze medalist in this event at this year&#8217;s European Championships. Just behind him was Dutch swimmer\u00a0<strong>Arno Kamminga\u00a0<\/strong>(1:00.29), who set the national record in this event earlier this year during the Sette Colli Trophy.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom\u00a0<\/strong>secured a big top seed in the women&#8217;s 50 free in 24.39, finishing more than half a second ahead of Russian\u00a0<strong>Mariia Kameneva\u00a0<\/strong>(24.91) and the Netherlands\u00a0<strong>Femke Heemskerk\u00a0<\/strong>(24.93). In the men&#8217;s event Russian\u00a0<strong>Vlad Morozov\u00a0<\/strong>(21.93) was the only swimmer in the field under 22 seconds this morning. He was followed closely by Ukrainian\u00a0<strong>Andrii Govorov\u00a0<\/strong>(22.08), who recently broke the world record in the 50 butterfly, and American\u00a0<strong>Michael Andrew\u00a0<\/strong>(22.26).<\/p>\n<p>Other top seeds included Russians\u00a0<strong>Vitalina Simonova\u00a0<\/strong>in the 200 breast\u00a0(2:27.40) and Kameneva with her second top seed of the morning in the women&#8217;s 50 back (28.31).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first stop of the 2018 FINA World Cup kicked off today in Kazan, Russia.
