TORONTO, Canada, November 24. ALIA Atkinson kept right on rolling after her title trifecta last night in short course meter competition at the Canada Cup as she topped the women's 50 breast with a blazing time of 29.87. <\/p>\n
Atkinson's time bested her prelim meet record of 30.47. It also vaulted her into the sub-30 club and into the top 10 all time in the event. Her previous Jamaican record had stood at a 30.19. Martha McCabe took second in this event with a 31.34, while Tera Van Beilen placed third in 31.58. McCabe returned in the women's 200 breast with a 2:23.20 to win, while Van Beilen placed second in 2:28.07. Sophie Cieplucha earned third in 2:29.41. Atkinson topped prelims with a 2:26.37, but scratched to focus on other events in finals, including the 100 IM where she won in 59.96. Paige Schultz took second in 1:02.82, while Katerine Savard touched third in 1:03.39. <\/p>\n
Savard clipped Noemie Thomas, 2:08.52 to 2:08.84, for the women's 200 fly title. Kendra Chernoff completed the podium with a 2:12.56. Thomas just missed the meet record in the women's 50 fly with a 25.99 for the win. Atkinson placed second in 26.85, while Savard took third in 27.00. <\/p>\n
After his triple last night, Kelly Aspinall snared the men's 50 back in 24.41. Omar Arafa touched second in 24.85, while Daniel Ramirez took third in 24.92. Aspinall doubled up tonight for his fifth title of the meet with a 22.21 in the men's 50 free. Chris Manning took second in 22.29, while Alex Loginov earned third in 22.34. <\/p>\n
Robert Wise claimed the men's 1500 free title in 15:16.79, while Chris Reith took second in 15:23.20. Philip Guertin picked up third in 15:23.29.
