CHRISTIANBURG, Virginia, November 17. AMANDA Rutqvist continued to shine today at the Hokie Fall Invite, putting up a strong time in the 200 breaststroke.<\/p>\n
South Carolina junior Rutqvist put up the second-fastest time in the collegiate ranks this season to date in the 200 breast with a 2:09.97. She was about a second off the automatic NCAA qualifying time of 2:08.70. Rutqvist nearly swam faster than her 15th-place time of 2:09.92 from the 2012 NCAAs. Her lifetime best still remains a 2:07.86. Placing second in the 200 breast today was Virginia Tech's Alyssa Bodin with a 2:14.99, while her teammate Keri Sink was third with a 2:16.64.<\/p>\n
In the women's 1650 freestyle, Virginia Tech's Laura Simon swam a 16.42.17, while William and Mary's Caylyn Tate placed second with a 16:51.29. Mary deMarrais of Connecticut placed third with a 16:52.97.<\/p>\n
Jake Ores of Virginia Tech and South Carolina's Marwan El Kamash raced side by side in the men's 1650 freestyle, with Ores taking the win in 15:29.20 and El Kamash finishing with a 15:29.65. Third place went to Alex Lutterbein with a 15:38.10.<\/p>\n
Brittany Boone of Virginia Tech took the title in the women's 200 backstroke with a 1:59.23, outsplitting William & Mary's Liz Glenn on the second 100 yards. Glenn took second with a 1:59.31. Virginia Tech's Holly Harper took third with a 2:00.28.<\/p>\n
Zach MacGinnis, the Virginia Tech team record holder in the 200 backstroke with a 1:42.57, posted a 1:44.07 to win the Hokie Invite title. Virginia Tech took second and third places with Collin Higgins (1:46.24) and Tom Sheranek (1:47.52).<\/p>\n
Katerina Filova and Emily Ryczek gave Virginia Tech a 1-2 finish in the women's 100 free with times of 50.33 and 50.60. Connecticut's Chinyere Pigot placed third in 51.01. Joe Bonk of Virginia Tech kept the schools' winning streak going with a victory in the men's 100 free with a 44.40. Alex Fitton of South Carolina took second with a 45.29, and Kyungsoo Yoon of Connecticut placed third in 45.40.<\/p>\n
Michael Flach, who impressed earlier in the meet with swift swims in the 200 and 500 freestyles, won a third individual title with a 200 fly victory in 1:45.51. Flach, who made the 200 fly final at the U.S. Olympic Trials, held off Virginia Tech's Morgan Latimer, who swam a 1:46.48 for second place. Greg Mahon was third with a 1:47.22.<\/p>\n
Virginia Tech closed out the meet with wins in both freestyle relays. The women won with a time of 3:20.99, while the men were victorious with a time of 2:56.50.<\/p>\n
