The second morning of the 2018 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships was another great showing for Team USA as they had every top seed on Friday morning in Fiji.<\/p>\n

Carson Foster\u00a0<\/strong>broke a legendary NAG record that was held by\u00a0Michael<\/strong> Phelps<\/strong>,and\u00a0Emily Weiss\u00a0<\/strong>broke a meet record that was held by\u00a0Zoe Bartel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Team captains Lucie Nordmann<\/strong>,\u00a0Drew Kibler\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Daniel Roy\u00a0<\/strong>also put up the top times in their respective events.\u00a0Mariah Denigan\u00a0<\/strong>is the other top seed for Team USA going into night two.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 Free<\/h3>\n

Lucie Nordmann\u00a0<\/strong>posted the top time in the 100 free heats with a 54.99, breaking 55 for the first time in her career before she heads off to Stanford in the fall. Nordmann is ahead of fellow American\u00a0Gretchen Walsh\u00a0<\/strong>(55.41) who is third for tonight’s final.<\/p>\n

Walsh added over a second from her best time of 54.38 from Nationals. Walsh is currently third all-time in the 15-16 age group as the 15-year-old still has another year to try and catch the 53.63 by\u00a0Missy Franklin\u00a0<\/strong>from 2011.<\/p>\n

Australia’s\u00a0Eliza King\u00a0<\/strong>(55.20) split the two Americans as she will have lane five for the final tonight.<\/p>\n

The Americans 4×100 free relay is looking solid with Nordmann, Walsh,\u00a0Alex Walsh\u00a0<\/strong>(55.61) and\u00a0Isabel Ivey\u00a0<\/strong>(55.65). The latter two will swim in the B-Final for Team USA.<\/p>\n

Japan’s\u00a0Nagisa Ikemoto\u00a0<\/strong>(55.91) will be the lone Japanese representative in the final. Australia will also have\u00a0Abbey Webb\u00a0<\/strong>(55.94) in lane 2.<\/p>\n

Canada’s\u00a0Maggie MacNeil\u00a0<\/strong>(56.44) and\u00a0Ainsley McMurray\u00a0<\/strong>(56.65) placed sixth and seventh while Ecuador got its first A-finalist of the week with\u00a0Anicka Delgado\u00a0<\/strong>placing eighth at 56.93.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Free<\/h3>\n
The Americans had the fastest four swimmers in the prelims of the 100 free as\u00a0Drew Kibler\u00a0<\/strong>(49.55) and\u00a0Adam Chaney\u00a0<\/strong>(50.06) will move on to the A-Final.\u00a0Danny Kovac\u00a0<\/strong>(50.12) and\u00a0Destin Lasco\u00a0<\/strong>(50.16) will swim in the B-Final.<\/p>\n
All four were faster than the next qualifiers in Japan’s\u00a0Keisuke Ishizaki\u00a0<\/strong>(50.32), Australia’s\u00a0Ashton Brinkworth\u00a0<\/strong>(50.33), China’s\u00a0Wang Yi\u00a0<\/strong>(50.43) and Singapore’s\u00a0Mikkel Lee\u00a0<\/strong>(50.44).<\/p>\n
Chaney is currently third all-time in the 15-16 age group in the 100 free as the 49.28 from\u00a0Caeleb Dressel\u00a0<\/strong>in 2013 is within his reach at finals. Kibler is 18 and will be chasing another Dressel record, this one is from 2015 and stands at a 48.78. Kibler is sixth all-time in the 17-18 age group.<\/p>\n
Australia’s\u00a0Joseph Jackson\u00a0<\/strong>(50.59) and Japan’s\u00a0Taikan Tanaka\u00a0<\/strong>(51.31) also qualified for the final.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 Breast<\/h3>\n
American\u00a0Emily Weiss\u00a0<\/strong>lowered her best time and broke the meet record on Friday morning at the Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Fiji. Weiss swam a 1:07.61 to break the meet record of 1:07.82 from American\u00a0Zoe Bartel\u00a0<\/strong>from 2016. Weiss’s best time before this was a 1:07.99 that she swam at the last two National Championships. Weiss is now seventh all-time in the 17-18 age group, moving ahead of 2000 Olympian\u00a0Staciana Stitts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
Weiss is over a second ahead of second place\u00a0Nina Kucheran\u00a0<\/strong>(1:08.81) from Canada. The other American in the final is\u00a0Allie Raab\u00a0<\/strong>(1:09.40), who knocked out\u00a0Zoie Hartman\u00a0<\/strong>(1:09.81) of the final.<\/p>\n
The other Canadian in the final will be\u00a0Avery Wiseman\u00a0<\/strong>(1:09.45) as the Canadians are showing they have a good group of young breaststrokers coming up in the ranks.<\/p>\n
Australia’s\u00a0Chelsea Hodges\u00a0<\/strong>(1:09.56), Japan’s\u00a0Yukino Miyasaka\u00a0<\/strong>(1:09.72),\u00a0Shiori Asaba\u00a0<\/strong>(1:09.80) and China’s\u00a0Peng Aiyuan\u00a0<\/strong>(1:10.75) also qualified for the final.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Breast<\/h3>\n
The men’s 100 breast will be a very tight race as it doesn’t look like a guaranteed American gold medal.\u00a0Team captain\u00a0Daniel Roy\u00a0<\/strong>is the top seed with his 1:02.35 on Friday morning at the Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. He is just ahead of\u00a0Gabe Mastromatteo\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.46) of Canada, who was the top seed coming into the meet.<\/p>\n
Both Roy and Mastromatteo have faster seed times and it could take a 1:01 to win the gold medal, or even get on the podium.<\/p>\n
Japan’s duo of\u00a0Kaede Hirakawa\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.67) and\u00a0Yamato Fukasawa\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.80) also had faster seed times than they swum with Fukasawa coming in with a 1:01.<\/p>\n
The other American in the field is\u00a0Tim Connery\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.83) who qualified fifth. Connery out-touched the duo of\u00a0AJ Bornstein\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.86) and\u00a0AJ Pouch\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.87) who qualified 10th and 11th.<\/p>\n
Canada’s\u00a0Alexander Milanovich\u00a0<\/strong>(1:03.71), Australia’s\u00a0Thomas Pearson\u00a0<\/strong>(1:04.46) and New Zealand’s\u00a0Matthew Holder\u00a0<\/strong>(1:04.84) also qualified for the final.<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 IM<\/h3>\n
The Americans put up the top three fastest times in the 400 IM heats on Friday morning at the Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Fiji.\u00a0Mariah Denigan\u00a0<\/strong>(4:43.54) and\u00a0Emma Weyant\u00a0<\/strong>(4:44.51) advanced to the final with\u00a0Claire Tuggle\u00a0<\/strong>(4:44.81) on the outside looking in.<\/p>\n
Denigan added a few seconds from her best time and so did Weyant. Denigan turned 15 this summer so she will be looking to improve on her seventh place time all-time in the 15-16 age group. The meet record could be in jeopardy with\u00a0Becca Mann’s\u00a0<\/strong>4:39.76 from 2012 still standing.<\/p>\n
China’s\u00a0Li Tianyao\u00a0<\/strong>(4:48.70), Japan’s\u00a0Mei Ishihara\u00a0<\/strong>(4:48.88) and Japan’s\u00a0Karin Takemura\u00a0<\/strong>(4:49.45) all broke 4:50 in the heats as it could be a big race for the bronze medal.<\/p>\n
Canada’s\u00a0Bailey Herbert\u00a0<\/strong>(4:51.59), Australia’s\u00a0Jacinta Essam\u00a0<\/strong>(4:54.49) and Canada’s\u00a0Victoria Kwan\u00a0<\/strong>(4:55.93) also qualified for the final.<\/p>\n

Men’s 400 IM<\/h3>\n
16-year-old\u00a0Carson Foster\u00a0<\/strong>did not break the meet record of 4:12.59 by\u00a0Chase Kalisz\u00a0<\/strong>from 2012, but did break the 15-16 NAG record in the 400 IM with a huge swim of 4:14.92. Foster broke the record that was a 4:15.20 by the legendary\u00a0Michael Phelps\u00a0<\/strong>from 2001.<\/p>\n
The time was a huge drop for Foster who was a 4:21.10 from the 2017 Nationals. Foster had not swam the event at Nationals or Juniors in 2018, but would have been seventh at Nationals this summer with that time.<\/p>\n
Foster is well ahead of second place\u00a0Keiya Tamaru<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Masayuki Otake\u00a0<\/strong>from Japan at 4:20.23. The other American in the final will be\u00a0Jake Foster\u00a0<\/strong>(4:21.29) who was a little off his best time of 4:19.18. Jake is Carson’s older brother and will be the fourth seed for tonight’s final.<\/p>\n
The older Foster finished just ahead of\u00a0Ethan Heasley\u00a0<\/strong>(4:21.35) who will swim in the B-Final.\u00a0Budding star\u00a0Gianluca Urlando\u00a0<\/strong>would have qualified for the final but was disqualified.<\/p>\n
Australia’s\u00a0Brendon Smith\u00a0<\/strong>(4:24.67),\u00a0Se-Bom Lee\u00a0<\/strong>(4:25.79), New Zealand’s\u00a0Thomas Watkins\u00a0<\/strong>(4:29.64) and China’s\u00a0Cheng Long\u00a0<\/strong>(4:30.62) also qualified for the final.<\/p>\n
