BLOOMINGTON, Indiana, November 16. INDIANA opened its 2012-13 home schedule Friday with day one of a two-day tri-meet with Penn State and Virginia at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington.<\/p>\n
The Hoosier men lead Virginia, 84-83 and Penn State, 87-80. Virginia leads the Nittany Lions, 94-73.<\/p>\n
Daniel Kanorr, Tanner Kurz, Jacob Kelzor and John Winck placed fourth in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:24.82 to open the meet.<\/p>\n
It was a tie in the men's 200-yard individual medley with Steve Schmuhl and Cody Miller posting identical times of 1:49.28. Eric Ress was fifth (1:51.26) and Sam Trahin ninth (1:52.15).<\/p>\n
Jim Barbiere was the winner in the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 4:24.15. Nicholas Schwab placed eighth (4:34.61) and Ryan Downey 10th (4:38.48). Miller made it three wins in a row for IU, taking the 100 breaststroke in 55.20. Ian Boggs placed seventh (57.88) and Mike Hurley eighth (58.40).<\/p>\n
Ress was the winner in the 200 backstroke (1:45.68), followed by James Wells in ninth (1:51.52) and Brent Aarons 11th (1:57.70). Kanorr was sixth in the 100 freestyle (46.00), with Barbiere ninth (46.69).<\/p>\n
Schmuhl took third in the 200 butterfly (1:50.38), with Trahin sixth (1:52.39) and Austin Saunders eighth (1:54.26).<\/p>\n
On the 3-meter springboard, the Hoosiers finished 1-2 with Darian Schmidt posting a score of 378.40, followed by Casey Johnson (355.65). Mick Dell'Orco was fourth (333.55) and Mick Dell'Orco fifth (307.90).<\/p>\n
Ress, Miller, Schmuhl and Kanorr closed day one with asecond-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay, touching the wall in 3:17.96. The group of Wells, Tanner Kurz, Saudners and Barbiere was fifth (3:23.17).<\/p>\n
The Indiana women's swimming and diving team opened its 2012-13 home schedule Friday with day one of a two-day tri-meet with Penn State and Virginia at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington.<\/p>\n
Virginia leads Penn State, 101-65, and Indiana, 114-63. Penn State holds a 105-62 lead over the Hoosiers.<\/p>\n
Sara Delay, Bronwyn Pasloski, Cynthia Pammett and Stephanie Armstrong took third in the 200 freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:33.20. In the 200 IM, Dorina Szekeres was sixth (2:04.51) and Brooklyn Snodgrass seventh (2:05.60). Madeline Maher rounded out the top 10 (2:07.03).<\/p>\n
Lindsay Vrooman was second in the 500 free (4:45.41), with Taylor O'Brien 10th (4:57.00) and Brenna MacLean 11th (5:05.22). It was a 1-2 finish for the Hoosier women in the 100 breaststroke with Ashley Specht the winner (1:01.60) and Bronwyn Pasloski second (1:02.36). Maher was fifth (1:05.17).<\/p>\n
Pammett was the top Hoosier in the 200 backstroke, finishing third (1:57.61), with Szekeres sixth (2:00.47) and Justine Ress seventh (2:01.00). Pasloski took eighth in the 100 freestyle (51.61) followed by Armstrong in 10th (51.66).<\/p>\n
On the 1-meter springboard, Indiana finished 1-2 led by Amy Cozad's score of 274.35. Kate Hillman was second (264.80), with Cassidy Kahn sixth (207.40) and Katie Bittner eighth (201.20).<\/p>\n
In the 200 butterfly, Brenna MacLean was ninth (2:04.46) and Vrooman 10th (2:06.22).<\/p>\n
The final event of day one was the 400 medley relay with Pammett, Specht, MacLean and Vrooman placing fifth in 3:44.33. Ress, Pasloski, Day and Armstrong were seventh (3:50.29).<\/p>\n
