WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. \u2013 The Purdue men\u2019s swimming and diving team will take on the No. 20 Penn State Nittany Lions and the No. 12 Michigan Wolverines swimming and diving teams this weekend in University Park, Pa. Meet time on Friday night is 6 p.m. with all events being non-scored and noon on Saturday for the double-dual meet.<\/p>\n
"Right now, we\u2019re in the heart of our season," said Purdue head coach Dan Ross. "The last couple of meets, we swam against the ninth- and 10th-ranked teams in the Big Ten and now for the next two meets, we\u2019ll swim against the second- and third- place teams and then the first- and fourth-place teams. So, we know that this is where we\u2019ll need to maker our mark on the year.<\/p>\n
"Our guys know that it\u2019ll be a difficult meet at Penn State, but we\u2019re hoping to get some of our best performances of the year. This is the only Big Ten meet at home for Penn State, and they\u2019ll be ready.<\/p>\n
"I think it\u2019ll also be interesting to go to their facility, which is more like Lambert (Pool) than our new pool, and see how the guys react."<\/p>\n
The Boilermakers have done well for themselves thus far on the year, tallying a 5-1 (2-0 Big Ten) record. On Jan. 12, the men defeated conference foe Michigan State at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center, while setting six Holloway Pool records. <\/p>\n
Several Purdue individual also continue to rise in the national rankings, as senior Javier Diaz, junior Tad Sayce, sophomore Tamas Bessenyei and freshman Rion Epping are all ranked in the top 50 in the nation in Taper & Shave\u2019s Quick 50 times.<\/p>\n
Purdue\u2019s three divers will also look to make an impact this weekend, continuing to improve on their scores with the coaching of Wenbo Chen, in his first season. Senior Kevin Young, sophomore transfer Eric Warrick and freshman Clay Davis have each contributed to the scoring this season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
