The penultimate morning session of the 2018 Asian Games from Jakarta, Indonesia featured six events and saw a Games Record fall to the way of veteran\u00a0Satomi Suzuki\u00a0<\/strong>of Japan in the 50 breast. Suzuki has already won a gold this week and she could win her second, and possibly her third on Thursday night in Jakarta.<\/p>\n

Joseph Schooling\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Xu Jiayu\u00a0<\/strong>are also going for their second and third golds of the meet respectively.\u00a0Khader Baqlah<\/strong>,\u00a0Yu Hexin<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Li<\/strong>\u00a0Guangyuan\u00a0<\/strong>are the top seeds going into their respective events for finals.<\/p>\n

Men’s 50 Fly<\/h3>\n

Joseph Schooling<\/strong>,\u00a0fresh off his 100 fly gold medal<\/a>, swam a 23.84 in the heats of the 100 fly on Thursday morning in Jakarta on the fifth day of swimming at the 2018 Asian Games. Schooling is just ahead of three other swimmers who broke 24 seconds in the prelims.<\/p>\n

China’s\u00a0Wang Peng\u00a0<\/strong>(23.89), Kazakhstan’s\u00a0Adilbek Mussin\u00a0<\/strong>(23.91) and Japan’s\u00a0Shunichi Nakao\u00a0<\/strong>(23.98) all broke 24 seconds as the gold medal could be up for grabs in the final.<\/p>\n

Schooling should still be the heavy favorite though as he is a class above the rest of the field. China’s\u00a0Li Zhuhao\u00a0<\/strong>(24.13) could be dangerous in the final as he is seeded sixth for the final.<\/p>\n

India’s\u00a0Virdhawal Khade<\/strong> (24.09), Japan’s\u00a0Yuki Kobori\u00a0<\/strong>(24.17) and Vietnam’s\u00a0Paul Le\u00a0<\/strong>(24.21) also placed in the very tight A-Final.<\/p>\n

    Women’s 50 Breast<\/h3>\n

    The women’s 50 breast heats were separated by less than a second across the top eight qualifiers. Japan’s\u00a0Satomi Suzuki\u00a0<\/strong>led the way with a new games record of 31.02, lowering the 31.04 set by China’s\u00a0Wang Randi\u00a0<\/strong>from 2010.<\/p>\n

    Suzuki has already won a gold medal this week<\/a>\u00a0and is looking for a second. She is slightly ahead of China’s\u00a0Feng Junyang\u00a0<\/strong>(31.16) and her Japanese teammate\u00a0Miho Teramura\u00a0<\/strong>(31.26).<\/p>\n

    China’s\u00a0Suo Ran\u00a0<\/strong>(31.38) and Malaysia’s\u00a0Jinq En Phee\u00a0<\/strong>(31.46) are also within striking distance of getting a spot on the podium.<\/p>\n

    Singapore’s\u00a0Roanne Ho\u00a0<\/strong>(31.59), Taipei’s\u00a0Lin Peiwun\u00a0<\/strong>(31.77) and Kazakhstan’s\u00a0Adelaida Pchelintseva\u00a0<\/strong>(31.94) also qualified for the final.<\/p>\n

      Men’s 100 Free<\/h3>\n

      The men’s 100 free final will be a very fun one to watch as a couple countries are going for their first ever medals in swimming at the Asian Games.\u00a0Khader Baqlah\u00a0<\/strong>of Jordan is the top seed at 49.30, tied for first with China’s\u00a0Yu Hexin<\/strong>. Jordan has never won a medal in swimming at the Asian Games as they only started competing in 1986.<\/p>\n

      Sri Lanka is also going for its first ever pool medal with\u00a0Matthew Abeysinghe\u00a0<\/strong>in the fourth position at 49.48. Sri Lanka has been competing at the Games since 1951 and have yet to win a medal in swimming. Abeysinghe and Baqlah could make history in the final on Thursday night in Jakarta.<\/p>\n

      Japan’s\u00a0Shinri Shioura\u00a0<\/strong>(49.32) and\u00a0Katsumi Nakamura\u00a0<\/strong>(49.50) should have more in the tank as they are seeded third and fifth respectively.<\/p>\n

      China’s\u00a0Hou Yujie\u00a0<\/strong>(49.52), Korea’s\u00a0Yang Jaehoon\u00a0<\/strong>(49.57) and Kazakhstan’s\u00a0Adil Kaskabay\u00a0<\/strong>(49.72) also qualified for the A-Final which could go anyone’s way.<\/p>\n

        Men’s 200 Back<\/h3>\n

        China’s\u00a0Xu Jiayu\u00a0<\/strong>has already won the\u00a050<\/a>\u00a0and 100 back<\/a> thus far this week at the Asian Games in Jakarta. He is going for a clean sweep with the 200 on Thursday night but will have his hands full with countryman\u00a0Li Guangyuan\u00a0<\/strong>(1:59.87) and Japan’s\u00a0Ryosuke Irie\u00a0<\/strong>(2:01.74). Xu is the second seed at 2:00.53. It is expected to come down between those three in the final.<\/p>\n

        Korea’s\u00a0Lee Juho\u00a0<\/strong>(2:01.88) and Japan’s\u00a0Keita Sunama\u00a0<\/strong>(2:02.64) could play spoiler and get on the medal stand but Irie and Xu have a lot left as they are definitely eyeing the 1:53’s put up earlier in the summer by\u00a0Evgeny Rylov<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Ryan Murphy<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

        Singapore’s\u00a0Zheng Quah\u00a0<\/strong>(2:02.68), India’s\u00a0Srihari Nataraj\u00a0<\/strong>(2:02.97) and Singapore’s\u00a0Francis Fong\u00a0<\/strong>(2:03.35) also placed in the final.<\/p>\n

          Women’s 4×100 Medley Relay<\/h3>\n

          Japan and China will go head to head once again in the final of the women’s 4×100 medley relay. They are 1-1 on the women’s relays this week with Japan taking the 4×100 free<\/a> and China taking the 4×200 free<\/a>.<\/p>\n

          Japan should expect\u00a0Natsumi Sakai<\/strong>,\u00a0Satomi Suzuki<\/strong>,\u00a0Rikako Ikee\u00a0<\/strong>and Tomomi Aoki\u00a0<\/strong>for their final relay while China should have\u00a0Chen Jie<\/strong>,\u00a0Shi Jinglin<\/strong>,\u00a0Zhang Yufei\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Zhu Menghui<\/strong>. Japan had the gold medal in each of the 100s so they are the favorites for the final.<\/p>\n

          Japan qualified for the final with Anna Konishi\u00a0<\/strong>(59.72), Reona Aoki<\/strong>,\u00a0Ai Soma\u00a0<\/strong>(58.39) and\u00a0Sakiko Shimizu<\/strong>, and China qualified with\u00a0Fu Yuanhui<\/strong>,\u00a0Yu Jingyao<\/strong>,\u00a0Lin Xintong\u00a0<\/strong>(59.30) and\u00a0Yang Junxuan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
