Japan’s\u00a0Yasuhiro Koseki\u00a0<\/strong>won his second gold medal of the meet, this time taking out the 100 breaststroke games record after he earlier won the\u00a0200 breast final<\/a>. Koseki swam a 58.86 to break the Games Record that was a 59.92 by\u00a0Dmitriy Balandin\u00a0<\/strong>coming into the meet. Balandin was the defending champion from 2014 and he ended up winning the bronze medal at 59.39, just behind China’s\u00a0Yan Zibei\u00a0<\/strong>(59.31).<\/p>\n

Koseki was just the third man to break 58 seconds at a major meet this summer as he will settle for the virtual bronze medal behind the British duo of\u00a0Adam Peaty\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0James Wilby<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Yan and Balandin also placed in the virtual world championship final with their times here. This comes after Balandin announced earlier in the week he was thinking about retiring<\/a>\u00a0after the Asian Games were done. Balandin cited injuries for keeping him out of the 200 breast final in which he was the defending Asian Games champion and reigning Olympic champion. Balandin is 23.<\/p>\n

Japan’s\u00a0Ippei Watanabe\u00a0<\/strong>(1:00.15), China’s\u00a0Qin Haiyang\u00a0<\/strong>(1:00.24), Korea’s\u00a0Moon Jaekwon\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.07), Uzbekistan’s\u00a0Vladislav Mustafin\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.49) and Singapore’s\u00a0Chien Khoo\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.74) also placed in the final.<\/p>\n

Koseki also won Japan’s eleventh gold medal in the 100 breast at the Asian Games. He joins the likes of\u00a0Masaru Ota\u00a0<\/strong>(1958),\u00a0Kenji Ishikawa\u00a0<\/strong>(1962, 1966),\u00a0Nobutaka Taguchi\u00a0<\/strong>(1970, 1974),\u00a0Shigehiro Takahashi\u00a0<\/strong>(1978),\u00a0Akira Hayashi\u00a0<\/strong>(1994),\u00a0Kosuke Kitajima\u00a0<\/strong>(2002, 2006) and\u00a0Ryo Tateishi\u00a0<\/strong>(2010) as Japanese winners in this event.<\/p>\n
