LAST weekend was what you might call the perfect storm for swimming fans around the world. From Katinka Hosszu&#039;s unbelievable 39 individual gold medals and $169,250 in race earnings on the World Cup Circuit, to the Bolles Boy&#039;s National High School relay record sweep, to multiple notable swims at the Minneapolis Grand Prix, today&#039;s Streamlined News will give you a recap of it all. <\/p>\n<p>The Bolles School made history at the Florida State Division 1 high school swimming and diving championships when they swept the 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 yard freestyle relays with national high school records in each. Coached by the renowned Sergio Lopez, the foursome of Ryan Murphy, Joseph Schooling, Josh Booth and Santo Condorelli were impressive, even clocking a final time in the 400 freestyle relay that would have placed seventh at the 2012 NCAA Division I men&#039;s Championships. Additionally, relay team members Joseph Schooling and Ryan Murphy set national high school records in the 100 butterfly and 100 yard backstroke, respectively. <\/p>\n<p>The 2012 FINA World Cup circuit came to a close this weekend in Singapore. Unsurprisingly, the female overall circuit winner was Hungary&#039;s Katinka Hosszu, followed by Zsuzanna Jakabos, also from Hungary. Third place went to Germany&#039;s Britta Steffen. Australian Kenneth To won the circuit title on the men&#039;s side, while second and third went to Trinidad and Tobago&#039;s George Bovell and Russia&#039;s Stanislav Donets, overtaking Japan&#039;s Daiya Seto, who was absent in Singapore. <\/p>\n<p>Although Mission Viejo&#039;s Chloe Sutton was the overall winner in the women&#039;s 1650 at the Minneapolis Grand Prix, second-place Rebecca Mann of Clearwater Aquatics made the biggest splash in the event, breaking Tiffany Cohen&#039;s 31-year-old National Age Group record for the 13-14 age group in the event by nearly half a second. In the first finals sessions, Mann won the 400 IM with the second-fastest time ever swum by a 14-year-old, and followed the next night with a win in the 200 butterfly, posting a time only a half second off the 13-14 National Age Group record set by the great Mary T. Meagher in 1979.<\/p>\n<p>Five-time Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin of the Colorado Stars had a handful of lifetime bests at the Minneapolis Grand Prix, including the 200 and 50 freestyles, and100 and 200 backstrokes. She picked up wins in each of those events, as well as the 100 freestyle. The meet was a star-studded event, marking the return to competition for a number of US Olympians from London, including Ryan Lochte, sprint star Jimmy Feigen and butterflier Claire Donahue. Garrett Weber-Gale returned to competition after failing to qualify for the London Olympics at the US Trials, and won the 100 freestyle.
